Lorry stuck under bridge North East Wales

I was delivering to a Ceva depot near Wigan and was asked to reverse into the building, the guy said " will you fit under ok drive?" I replied “yes in metres, but not in feet” with a confused look on his face he said “huh?” I told him there was a difference in the two heights, this confused him even more and he replied “erm. We’ll tip you in the yard then”
I’ve just looked on street view and the height signs are no longer there

look like my phone call to the paper worked!!! wonders never cease!

Good for you mate. Let’s hope the police give the guy his £100 back without hesitation and get a grown up to apologies for inconvenience.

It looks like a brand new sign, there’s gonna be some covering of arses going on at the council I bet.

I think its important to point out that the sign doesn’t in fact tell you how high the bridge is.
the sign is an obligatory sign, and NO vehicle above 4.1m may pass it, so that any vehicle up to 4.1m should be able to go under that bridge without hitting it.
That being the case there should of been plenty of clearance for a 4.1m vehicle to pass.

And the council or whoever is ultimately responsible pay for the damages and any losses incurred by the haulier

Exactly Bill. If facts are all correct, than haulier has to stick a claim in the same way rail company would. Damage, loss of future earnings while truck is off road, damage to load, and that is before we get to the driver. Must of ruined his day!

Probably Agency driver.

You really think a Google car has been through that area between the crash and you looking on street view?

Janos:
Could the bridge be 13", and wrongly converted to 4.1m? Mateyboy could be justified in having a go if he only understood metric and was 4m?

This streetview image was taken in Sept 2009 and clearly shows the bridge marked at 13’ with no metric conversion displayed. Looks as if it may have been wrongly converted.

Possibly, but my mistake didn’t cause a bridge strike

Ultimately it will be us Joe Public that pays via our council tax if the local council are to blame.

I’m not admitting to it again, that could result in 2 fines.

other end of road, sign was changed between 2011 and 2014

I was driving on A303 yesterday and once I passed Andover I have seen the sign for some village or little town informing about the low bridge 4.1m 13’5" so that we have different values.

Just had a quick journey with Google Maps and that sign is for Amport and Monxton. Here you have coordinates 51.213756, -1.554726.

I thought that too, was amazing he thought Streetview was some kind of live stream. I think he means the CEVA depot though.
