Part of the A57 near Markham Moor was closed for four hours on
Thursday 10/10/13 after a lorry was blown over in strong winds.
The incident occured on a roundabout close to the A57’s junction with the A1.
Police and Notts County Council highways officers closed one lane
of the road at 4.30pm to recover the vehicle, adding further
delays to the busy rush-hour traffic.
The road was fully re-opened at 8.30pm later that evening.
“We are still investigating the reason why the lorry rolled over but
we found no mechanical damage or blown tyres on the vehicle,” said
Ian Wheeler of Notts County Council’s highways department.
“We did get reports of a couple of trees being blown over in strong
winds around that area on the same day, so it looks like the lorry
was simply blown over by a sudden strong gust of wind that caught
everyone by surprise.”

It’s actually a myth that he was trying to prove he could control the sea! Apparently he was trying to prove that even the king CAN’T control some things
On the subject of the topic, somebody said that they will somehow find a way of blaming the driver… Tongue in cheek or not, is there any truth to this? I.e. you or I would accept the wagon was blown over, but would the police/insurance etc actually try to prove that it was still the driver’s fault/should have been driving slower/not driven at all in such conditions etc?

…funny how it happened on a roundabout though, eh?
Not really: When coming off a roundabout, a lorry is in a pretty unstable condition, even if the driver is being careful. A sudden gust of wind at exactly the wrong time, and over you go.
Is that the roundabout of the N/B A1 at the A57 that takes you to B&Q and wilkinsons RDC’s?? If it is, There’s a bit of a camber but nothing excessive really

No, it’s one of the Markham Moor roundabouts and the photo was taken looking down the A57 towards Lincoln.

That’s it then !
I’m going to avoid all roundabouts in future & plan all my routes using only nice straight roads.
Oh- Bloody Hell ! we’ve only got 6 thousand of the bleeding things in Milton Keynes.

I didnt realise we had OJ Simpsons lawyer on Trucknet
the old timer:
looks like he / she’s loaded and on a roundabout…
yes I was just thinking the same - in my opinion the winds been strong, but no way enough to be toppling loading trucks roundabout or not, maybe the load moved at the same time the wind got up to 100 mph for a split second though… … or maybe the load shifted as he was going round the round about a bit quicker than he/she should have been. just a thought.
