Lorry Pubs

Sorry, I have a poor memory for the names but hopefully people on here will know where I mean and fill in the gaps?

The Leicester Arms in Coalville was great in the late 80’s, another good one was in Clist Honiton with a great parking ticket to give to the boss, the Isle of Grain had a good landlord and pub, he’d come and get you from the dock lorry park and then drop you back at the end of the evening. Red Lion Northampton of course, Halcross dog stadium and bar Gretna, and a few good nights in apub on the corner of Gloucester lorry park in the late 90’s?

Any one help with the names?

Cheers in advance (maybe)

mike

What about the Jungle in North Shields ( I think the proper name was the Northumberland Arms ) then there was the Red Lion in Aldgate E.London, the Juniper Berry in Southampton, the Devon ( or Devonshire ) arms in Hartlepool and I can’t remember the name of the one in Boston near the docks but I’m sure someone will. Cheers to all, Haddy Gt. Yarmouth.

maybe the parrot was a grass!!

Another pub was the ‘Honky Tonk’ in Workington (real name The Ancient Mariner), there were some really rough old birds in there!

The Honky Tonk :unamused: where do they get these names from :open_mouth: .
There was a pub next to Grangemouth Docks where we used to park called The Hokey Pokey Bar :unamused: .

I hope that you never had the " Chicken " and Chips in the basket when you were in The Earl de Grey pub Steve  .

hiya,
A pub which was featured on telly a while back known as The Peep in the Aberdeen docks area well used by truckers in the 60s and 70s when there was stuff going up during the oil rush, had some hilarious nights in there had digs just a short stagger away, Aberdeen BRS depot was local to it as well useful when waiting for your load home.

Used to park up in Newark. Cannt remember the name of the pub but around the corner there was a hostel for battered wives. Had some good and interesting nights there.

No mushroomman, the “chicken” was only on for 1 night and I missed it!

Another place I remember was Betty’s Bar, Broomielaw, as I remember (hearsay only) the going rate for an evening of female company was a can of Special Brew!

Colonel’s Cafe, Bloxwich

Well, its was sort of half pub half cafe wasn’t it? - with a nightclub round the back.

hiya,
Was it not "The Kernel "sort of licensed cafe ■■■ nightclub ■■■ digs stayed there a few times seems like a very long time ago.
thanks harry long retired.

Not sure Harry, it may have been - there were certainly a few nuts there.

Would be mid 90’s the few occasions I stayed.

Four of us on the lorry park in Wolverhampton decided to go for a drink in the Blue Ball. A few ladies of the night stood outside accosting all and sundry but we sweved around them. After getting served we went over to a cage containing a Mynah bird and started to talk to it. Seemingly it was a young bird and just starting to talk. Well after a few minutes coaching it started to swear like a trooper. The landlord went off on one told us to drink up get out and never come back while in the background the bird was telling everyone they were a ■■■■■■■ Happy days.

Don’t forget the County on Immingham docks, can anyone remember the mother and seven daughters plying their trade in there?
Apparently the husband and father left them - can’t think why!!

Cracking place that. I remember going in for the first time and opening the door just as a pint pot and a young lad came flying out. One of the lads i was with and was a regular just stepped over him and said “pool tables free now if you want a quick game”. What a dive but an even worse kebab over the road next to the cop shop.
What about the “The Mucky Duck” (black swan) just north of Exelby on the southbound A19. Lovely country pub with a little zoo outside that you could just squeeze 3 or 4 trucks in down the bottom of the car park.

The Bedale Hunt on the A1 in Yorkshire (sadly demolished now)

Several of us company drivers would use the same car park Sunday night when delivering in London, there were usualy a Dulapillo driver there too who would join us. Even though ther was only about four pubs we used to frequent sadly can’t remember any names (you’d think i’d remember the one with the ■■■■■■■ dancers  ) It was easy for an innocent lad like me to get led astray
One of the pubs had a comedian that dressed in drag and came out with some really funny stuff, one i still remmember is him saying " I was halfway to Ireland when i found out an 18 inch Murphy was a television"
