Lorry Nostalgia Forum?

Hi Just looked at the idea for a forum for us old timers never mind the old ■■■■■ forum a bit more polite title could be “The Golden Oldies” as lets face it we all grow old sometime there must be a load of old “Lorry Drivers” like me I am not happy about being labelled a “Trucker” that is an american term for a Wagon Driver and photos are great with memories of the old days spent at the Jungle on shap in the middle of winter waiting for the gritters to come over and then it,s all systems go or on the old A1 there is nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia now and again just thinking about the good old days and they weren,t that good but like everything else we have to progress but there were some bad times as well as the good ones but you only remember the good ones .

Just to rejuvenate this thread a bit, I was reading another of Ghinzani’s posts about the V8 and which was the smallest powered enfine fitted.

After a lot of searching around, there is verry little on that type of truck on the internet, Ford D Series and Leyland Mastiffs with a V8 etc.

I wish I had been more astute as a lad and Ebay was in existence  My dad was a salesman for Leyland Trucks and I got all the brochures and updates from the factory as they released them. Unfortunately I have either binned them or left them in another house :frowning:

I remember him going to the launch of the new Marathon and he sold all kinds of Leyland CV from the FG to the Terrier.

I did find a little history about Leyland, or BMC or Albion or Morris or BMH

Hello all

First post after having read for a while - like very much what I see. Espsecially in the photo section I see a lot of classic lorries, which interest me greatly. I wonder if anyone has thought about a forum devoted to the old-timers? I am a big fan of car racing and regularly post on this forum forums.atlasf1.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=10 , which is part of a wider website called Atlasf1. In that forum they deal only with old and classic racing stories, cars and drivers. I wonder what people thoughts of a similar forum here are? I’d be more than happy to moderate it, as I am not lucky enough to be a lorry driver I work in IT and have broadband access (and plenty of time between callouts!) to be looking at the net!

Who else would get excited by tales of Rowe Hillmasters, Rotinoff Super-Atlantics and sheperds pie and chips at the White House on the old A30?

I know theres lots of good stuff dotted around the forums here already but it might be nice to bring it all together?

feel free to let me know

Ghinzani

Sounds a good plan, maybe you should PM lucy or Rikki with your ideas.

We did suggest something along the lines of an old ■■■■■ forum, and Mal suggested a cubby hole type of thing to post old photos of proper trucks with proper bodies and gearbox.

I remember the old Wembley cafe at Newport on the A63. Now Graylease, Gray Services

Excellent idea - think Dave Young (TK Dave) may have some interesting pics of various old transport caffs.

I guess by ‘proper bodies’ you’ll be meaning flat beds Wheel Nut ? My back’s aching just thinking about pulling sheets around, but at least you could tell pretty quickly the bad drivers from the good 'uns

Got the PM…certainly a possibility… :bulb:

Will leave this thread to run for a bit and see how much interest it generates. :grimacing: :grimacing:

Quite a good idea

PS:- WADDA YA MEAN "OLD TIMERS

I meant the rigs, honest guv!

Although I do see a good idea , I also see a danger!

The PDF and other forums are a hive of activity and for my money the reason why most truckers visit TruckNet, creating more and more forums for specialist interest creats 2 problems

1 The people who don’t think they are interested won’t visit it

2 To get others to read about the old times and ways is to post these stories on the PDF! education education education! A busy PDF would create an interest when even the most fickel would realise that the old ways is if nothing else an interesting read!

Just my opinion!

How about sort of merging the idea in with the photo forum as a kinda “recreational interest in commercial vehicles, old and new and related matters” forum? Obviously it’d need a snappier title than my effort there! Sort of a place to tell tales, post pics, talk technical and stuff…anything not really related to the day in day out ‘driving as a job’ aspect of lorries.

It’s hard though…I guess there is a lot of crossover from forum to forum already.

Andyroo do you mean a Sub-Forums
like this one here where you would
go into the pics forum and at the top
would be a link to a Sub-Forum like
this - s105883597.websitehome.co.uk/for … 40bad&f=70

I think this would be a good idea

I take all the comments on board, for the minute I think if I’m posting about subjects that are not current I will preface the title with “Nostalgia!” (feel free to do same), and lets see how it goes. Remember no matter how obscure your memories of dodgy cafes, rusty cabs or long waits to unload someone (me!) will be interested in hearing your old nostalgia.

Hey wheel nut, talk about shelf life - very interesting link though, many thanks!

Any chance the mods could move this into the old timers forum?
