Lorry drivers that tailgate motorists in roadworks

Drivers can drive below the limit for many reasons and are doing absolutely nothing wrong. It’s the clowns that harass them for doing so that need educating.

To be fair they certainly are doing something wrong if they don’t use an entry slip to accelerate to a speed where they can join a motorway etc, without causing those on the motorway etc to have to take avoiding action because of a speed differential.Having said that how many drivers are taught to make lane 2 the default choice on the approach to junctions or if something is on the hard shoulder for example.

Are you bored Carryfast? I totally agree that they should but if you read back we were talking about drivers doing 45 mph through roadworks and not about using slip roads.

There are many reasons why they do not know how to join a motorway.

They are not taught the pratical side on a basic driving test. They are taught the theory but most either do not understand or do not take it in or in a lot of cases just forget what they learned.

They do have the option of taking further lessons to learn this (pass plus ) if it still running but presume most do not because it costs money.

There are also the ones that are pertified because the last time they tried to join they encountered a Fowler Welch nasty driver.

I could go on but I sure you know the score.

Before someone says “Agency” though - it’s the full timers who have this “job n knock” mentality that doesn’t allow them to come off the limiter, use the brakes, or get off the phone, or get one’s feet of the dashboard come to that.

That’s me. If there is someone with a baby on board sign in the rear window, or a wheel chair visible in the boot compartment, or if they are old and infirm, or young and clearly only just passed their test doing 49 mph in the middle lane through the road works, they get tailgated and flashed and intimidated till they either move over or I get an opportunity to undertake. I’m on job n knock and have no time to zb about. If I think I can pass in the the outside lane without clipping the raised iron works I go for it.

I hope you are joking and just on a wind up but if you are not why would you drive in a manner that is not only extremely dangerous but gets the good lorry drivers a bad name?
Have you any idea how a new driver could react with a clown in a truck being a big bully? Have you any idea how many accidents a year are caused by similar driving?
Why would you admit to being a bad driver on here? Please tell me you are joking.

Yes. Sorry I was joking. I’ve witnessed first hand what can happen when things go wrong so I grit my teeth and drop back. Can’t say the antics of other road users don’t annoy me, but at the end of the day the choice is hold back for 10-20 minutes or risk killing people and going to prison plus the lifetime of guilt. You can’t predict what might happen in even the slightest shunt. Some people walk away unharmed in a 100mph crash, others die at 20mph. Not worth the risk even on job n knock.

No problem, I thought you were but you do get the odd one on here that is serious. I just had to check.

would you ring up his boss and tell him to throw his licence in the paper shredder or arrange tea and biscuits with Beverly or Sara Bell pleading for your licence back ?

No because I’m not a grass & I have no time for such petty things.

They then flash their lights, toot the horn , to intimidate the motorist to make them go over the 40 or 50 mph average speed limit.

If the so called motorist got on with it or kept out of the way ie left (like you’re meant to) then there wouldn’t be any any problems-simples[emoji16]

You have to take on the whole likely/probable scenario, where the car driver breaks his neck to get past the truck, and then drives Miss Daisy through the roadworks…■■■■■■
