Who’d be interested in trying to get a Lorry Driver’s credit union off the ground? Bus drivers have got one (Voyager Alliance)
We basically would need to form a committee, raise start-up capital (URTU, big haulage firms etc) of around £70,000 and do the necessary paperwork with the FSA.
Could benefit quite a few with favorable savings rates and low cost small cash loans to help cover Insurances, Holidays, Xmas etc
What do you lot think?
I think more people would be interested in borrowing from it than lending to it.

All credit unions lend with an eye on available funds

No.
Was more interested in the savings side of things…
I used to be in VA. Interest rate was competitive and the annual dividend was quite handsome too
My wife and her cronies set one up in our town.It took quite a while for all the formalities and training etc,but they did it and it`s very successful.
Been running a few years now.
I mean, it needn’t be exclusively for drivers it could be for anyone in Road haulage… More people we could open it up for, the more successful it will be
I’d give it a go, what are the typical returns?
Skills for Logistics (SfL) has just had £1.3m of money off the Government to establish a credit union for logistics employees as part of their new Logistics Guild. It looks like most of the large 3PL logistics companies are going to part fund it to get it going.
Both of these come up on the internet if you google them.
Can’t see that one taking off if they are only going to provide loans for training and nothing else
3PL = 3rd party logistics i.e. Wincanton, KN
Can’t speak with authority about the CU but they say they will offer all thr normal services.
Great news… I’ll just sit tight then
