i tipped a load of oysters on sunday morning in brittany. i then ran with an empty fridge 350 miles south to reload with carrots.
was i breaking the rules by running empty? or was i ok because i was picking up fresh produce?
i would have thought that carrots are not considered perishable
goods However it may be that I am wrong and just checked and I was
according to this LINK
AND this one is even better LINK-2
Well worth a read through hope this helps you out
think you was breaking the law as you where empty the french would say it was bad planning whilst they hit you with a fine
I am pretty sure that you have to have to be loaded to run,not empty.

Yes
Fresh fruit and vegetables are exempt, as I understand it they don’t even need to be in a fridge trailer, a tilt will do. Bizarrely, honey is considered to be perishable goods, even though it will remain edible in a sealed container for 2000 years.

i thought so.
but i padlocked and sealed the back doors, and of course made out a cmr. thanks to the chap in brittany for lending me his stamp.
but i had to ask. because i couldn’t help thinking that i’ve done all that, then what if it turns out i was legal anyway.
The seal would not have made a bit of difference to the frogs, they would have soon broken it it take a look in the back.

you’re probably right. but you have to try.
Don’t blame you,we have all done it.
So how far are you allowed to go empty to get a load?
You can travel as far as you like empty,as long as its not during the weekend ban …
think youwill find in france anyway you are allowed to run i think 150km empty to collect a fresh load could be 100km cant remeber exactly
But must have evidence of where you are loading from with you
But over the years how many of us with fridges have ignored it going down with ambient or even frozen on
Bring back the days if 6 hours from boat keep going lol

You can return empty from delivering a fresh load but cannot run empty to collect one.
Empty return is authorised within a zone restricted to the region of the first delivery point and the
neighbouring departments, or to the region of the first delivery point and adjacent regions within
150 kilometres of the first delivery point.
For the purposes of implementation of the provisions of this article, the region of origin is the region
of departure of the vehicle (or of entry into France) for the transport operation concerned.

You’re thinking about this from the wrong direction. You don’t need a 2000 year old person, you just need 2000 year old honey. Honey has been excavated from Egyptian pyramids and it was still edible.

i think you,r wrong. my wife bought a jar in tesco last week and it said on the jar. best before 15.07 2012. so what you say is that honey was made in 15.07.0012.

It might not be at its best after that but it will be edible at least until 15/07/4012, let us know.
