Lorries parking on the edges of msas

So,I stopped at cherwell valley last night.Even though there were three or four spaces,I couldnt get in because of the lorries selfishly parked all round the edges.Well,I could of probably got in but it would have been very very tight. So I have to take my break parked across blocking other lorries hoping they are all parked up for the night because of this, very annoying

Maybe when these motors arrived all the spaces were full,.so the only place to park was around the edges.
In the meantime the trucks in the 3 or 4 spaces had left at different times. :bulb:
You can only park when and where you can in those places.

It is annoying, even when you are in a space it makes it tight to get out because of their idiotic parking. It is either that they are genuinely thick or just cannot drive.

Don’t worry about parking across the front of other lorries. As a seasoned night driver of nearly 2 decades I’ve had to block other lorries to take a break at services more times than I can remember. Twice in the past 2 nights in fact. I can say hand on heart I’ve never once been asked to move. You get a 6th sense for knowing whether a lorry is going to pull out or not. Generally if curtains are closed, night heater on, and lights are off, it’s a good bet it’s going nowhere for a good few hours.

But anyway, welcome to night trunking.

This is the daytime that I am referring to, even when spaces are available.

A split…

Break is the answer. Take 15 and then if you have to move you only need a 30 to keep things sweet.

It also helps if you’re good at blindside reversing. There can be loads of slots that many drivers won’t even attempt.

Yes they probably were, but if but if you get to the services and there are no spaces then you need to consider the car park full just like you would in x multi storey car park. You wouldnt leave your car blocking access so why do it on a truck…

The only reasons they park round the edges is primarly

  1. they are dirty neantherdals who use the truck to hide themselves when they go ■■■■ on the grass instead of walking 100 yards to the toilet facilities.
  2. they can’t reverse for toffee so ■■■■ it up for everyone that can by making all the bays unusable, unless you’re in a rigid, tanker, tipper or container with no overhang.

I’m taking it this is your first time on nights. Parking across the front of lorries parked up for the night is often what you have to do in services when taking a driving break on nights.

I can blindside but when you have two cabs together ,I dont want to start squeezing in between them. Its not so bad 2 trailers ,besides,I dont want to disturb drivers who are sleeping

I haven’t tramped…

For many years but, the things that woke me up at MSAs or truckstops wasn’t lorries backing in, doing trailer swaps, fridges on defrost (including my own less than three feet away from me) it was other drivers gobbing off. Some blokes just have to let the whole place know they’ve got the crappy trailer, the worst run, the slowest motor or their money’s been messed up again.

I’ve never been woken up by lorries backing in whilst I’m asleep. I must add though, reversing bleepers weren’t really that common back then.

Painful memories returning of yonks ago at Clackets msa when l got blocked in by a foreign fridge oppo, thwarting my 3am start. Non cooperative driver, rozzers called…‘‘it’s a civil matter…private land, we can’t do anything’’…type of deal. That’s gone down the memory shute. Traumatising at the time l recall.

Until they start building French style aire-de type locations En-masse and opening industrial estates for overnights, this will continue to fester and poison the game. The gvmnt could solve this with one stroke of their Mont-Blanc quills.

I agree…

It’s a crap situation overnight parking in the UK. They’ve built so many huge industrial parks with no provision for parking at all. Stop for more than a minute on any of Magna Parks roads and the white van arrives.

Do not get me started about parking around the edges at Cherwell, it really does boil my ■■■■.
The inconsiderate ones who park on the road where the path is to the main building. Absolute lazy, bone idle, well I can’t put what I want to say. Park in a space, there’s loads of them and walk back instead of restricting the access for other drivers to those empty spaces.
The ones who park next to the truck wash. Well done! You"ve made it round, now why did you not reverse into a space? Oh, I see, you can’t reverse a 26 tonne rigid into a space ffs! Never mind, you’ve just made it a little more difficult for those that can, no worries you selfish 2 hat.

Rant over

Yep ok, good point.
I never overnight park in these crap holes, so I’ve never really experienced the thing you’re on about.
What does ■■■■ me off though is cars parking in the truck park, not to mention cars pulling ■■■■ caravans in there.
Cullompton services is a good example, there is a designated caravan park as soon as you turn in before the fuel station, but the ■■■■ s will insist in using the truck park.
There has been a few times during summer months where you just can not get on the truck park for them.

Cars and caravans parked in the truck park would have me knocking on doors.
Re the parking areas in France I recall a couple of occasions where if a driver advises the gendarmes of the above situation,a couple of officers will come down and shift them.

Ok, but that is France, UK Police can hardly be arsed to come out to a burglary, do you really think they would care?..unless they were out handing parking tickets out in the vicinity of course, like the 2hat who got me the other week. :smiling_imp:

I think the worst MSA is ■■■■■ Anger Green on the M11. parking is crap, there are cars and caravans dumped everywhere and the coach park is often the only place where you might find room for a break. The garage near Stansted has eased things a bit but the service area is just so busy with airport traffic.
