I don’t get your point here, Yes the H/S is for emergency use, you shouldn’t be driving on the H/S unless authorised by Officers. There wasn’t 4 days of packed snow, it started to snow really heavy at approx 8-30pm, by 9-00pm the motorway between J27 & J25,M6 was blocked in both directions, and the snow was still falling very heavy. The drivers of the HGV’s didn’t have a chance of moving once they’d stopped, but at least they were all prepared with food, drinks and warm clothes etc, a lot more than 95% of the car drivers who expect that they can blast along at silly speeds what-ever the weather, then when it all goes ■■■■ up, it’s someone elses fault.
You don’t want to be driving on the hard shoulder in this area, it stops at each of the bridges. It’s hard work getting out if you have had to stop for any reason.

As an aside, you know why that is don’t you? the motorway there was originally only built as a 2 lane c/way, so when they decided to make it into 3 lanes they used the original H/S for lane 1 and made a new H/S, but the bridges were all built for 2 lanes & H/S, so weren’t wide enough to incorporate the new H/S, that’s why there is no H/S under bridges on some stretches of c/way.
