When I wanted a driver for my sprinter n trailer I couldn’t get one good enough ,theyed all got big wheeler syndrome ,so I took on a new driver ,well new to transport ,he’s just done his class one and allmi ,no multidrops, just proper light haulage ,limited to 60 mph ,last week no nights out 50 hrs at £10 per hr plus a Sunday morning 9 hrs run at double time ,iam quite pleased he’s a quick learner .

and if it’s £550 a week that’s more than many people earn in many jobs, especially in places like the wilds of Lincolnshire and it means and you have weekends for your family.
Median wage for full time employees in the UK is £550 per week.

You’re considered a high earner in Hull if you’re on minimum wage!

Does anyone really do this?HGV Class 1 Driver - NIGHT TRUNKING £110 Per Night
George H Kime & Co Limited - Lincoln
£110 a dayWhat’s the role?
Drive down to Birmingham, get tipped, park up, go to sleep for 6hrs, reload, drive back to yard, go home.
Half your shift will be spent inspecting the back of your eyelids.
All well and good but youre still effectively working for that company for that period of time, the end result will still equate to a crap wage at the end of the week. I personally dont see it as a bonus that you may be sitting in the cab for six hours, what a waste of life…
Totally agree

So how does this compare to a tramper/night out where you are “at work” but not being paid?
Personally its not for me but as said it may suit some due to the free time it gives you in the daytime and, weekends, especially if you have kids.
I live not far from there and that is pretty consistent with pay in the area

No, actually £550, as I said. I daresay the site you have seen is including part time workers, or maybe they are quoting an arithmetical mean figure rather than the median. ons.gov.uk/employmentandlab … e-earnings

Found this for 2015, you can really get to a local level and separate part-time and full-time work and male and female.

I think Wrangle will be in East Lindsey.

It does not matter if you spend 1 hour or 6 hours asleep
.This is part of your life you will never get back , and you should value This life more than what some of these ■■■■■■■ firms are trying to pay people.Exactly, those 6 hours are part of what it takes to do the job, you are paid by the hour to do that job, the fact that all there is to do is sleep is irrelavent, those hours no matter how easy for the driver should be priced in at a realistic rate when the haulier tendered for the job.
If easier jobs were paid less than hard graft, labourers would be on more money than company directors.
How much are you paid per hour to sleep in your cab Rob?

Not enough,… but I think we’ve been here before about night out subsistence, it has never been about an hourly rate.
The best job I’ve had hours wise was night freight ( tyre contract) , Grantham - hey wood or sometimes downtowns at glous , I’d start 5.30 ish and be back for midnight, so Friday night in bed , all day sat , sun until 5.30 mon , I’d also in week be back by midnight so full night sleep and up at 7 and then all day until 4.30 ish ( get ready for work ) , I’d get all my jobs done in week then have 3 days off .
Then a driver left and they asked me when I got back from glous if I’d take load upto hey wood , stop out and do reverse the next day , so Grantham - glous - Grantham - hey wood , I was still parked up by 2.30 in morn , then reverse next day ( lad who did Scot did it midweek ( hey wood ) , still back by Friday midnight and not back to 5.30 Monday , lad who did Scotland got is paid the lad who’d left wages instead of getting agency in , our 10 hrs + his 10 hrs ( 20 hrs per shift , I then came down one Friday from hey wood , loaded for glous and boss said will you do me a big favour , the trunk that goes to willenhall has only 6 tyres on it , so instead of paying a agency driver , fuel truck would you drop them off at willenhall for me , yea of course I will you’ve looked after us with wages , it’s not far out my way so yea , I’ll give you a £50 bonus for doing it for me
It was brilliant , bloody good money , most shifts 5.30 - 2.30 , long weekends
Then a new boss was put in charge of co we were sub ing for , straight away if I’m paying 2 wages I want two drivers , my boss couldn’t do anything but I chucked dumpy
Out of pram, ended up on a disiplinary with big boss comming up , told just to get me to toe line , but I just jacked
It was never going to last, but I was so ■■■■■■ off when it finished , worst thing is I took it out on my old boss and he’d nothing wrong
5.30 -= 17.30 long day
