Hi there. I’m going to keep this short and to-the-point…
I’m looking for weekend only driving work for Class 2 / Category C.
Preferred location would be Teesside (where I live), but anywhere at a 30 mile radius from there will be fine.
I’ve already looked at indeed etc. and did apply for one job of this exact criteria … had the interview and driving assessment with the company, but unfortunately didn’t get the job. There isn’t much on the job list for what I want either … that’s why I’ve come back on here to ask directly.
I have a tachograph card and CPC which expires on the middle of next year (2026), so I don’t have a lot of time left.
If any of you know any company or agency that have somethings that matches what I am looking for, I would appreciate that you let me know here.
is there a tesco rdc in your radius i know they take on class 2 drivers rather than just class 1 and give them rigids to drive. I would suggest the parcel people but they are unlikely to have work on both sat and sun.
I’ve just checked and yes there is a “Tesco 380” on Teesport / Middeslbrough, as well as an Asda warehouse next to it… so yeah I could try there. Thanks.
The Parcel People … do you have more info / website of this company? … or are you talking about the same place?
That’s right acorn, I work full-time during weekdays on a completely different job (I.T) … meanwhile I want to try and gain more HGV driving experience on the side.
It does seem far-fetched on what I’m wanting but surely some places must have such roles available… as I said in my initial post, one company I applied for (a hotel laundry cleaning service) stated in their job advert they were looking for Class 2 drivers for weekend only.
I assume you know that the work you do Monday to Friday counts as other work for the EU regulations, so depending on what hours you work you may not be able to work both Saturday and Sunday.
You need a 45 hour weekly rest period at-least every second week.
Ok, here is how it stands for me on my work hours:
My I.T job is actually Tuesday to Friday, in total 38 hours. On the Friday I finish at 5pm.
If this 45 hour weekly rest period is CONSECUTIVE, that’ll mean according to these regulations that I can’t do HGV driving work until Sunday at 2pm, right? Doesn’t look like there’s any company out there that will provide a job starting at that strange time.
… sounds like I’m screwed here. Either I have to quit my I.T job (which is absolutely NO WAY, I’ve been there 15 years and have many responsibilities), or just forget about this HGV driving career altogether… a waste of training and money, but hey… we all make mistakes.
Owner, you’re putting your weekly rest at the end of office hours, rather than end of driving time
You could do done driving. Note, you would be mullered if there was any delay on your planned driving times, mullered if you had any longer work days
Obviously you’d be an employee driver, so it’s deciding if it’s worth it, especially if your IG work puts you at or near 40% rate.
If it’s a good employer, you’d need an induction and assessment, etc etc etc
How would your IT job react if you had to go in late Monday or even delay til Tuesday?
Do t forget to carry 28 days records at a times when at hgv job😀
