recently passed class 1 looking for details of agencies who will take on new drivers . based in scotland but willing to travel and stay away to gain experience and earn a bit before christmas .would be very grateful if anyone can give me names or numbers of any agency that would suit . been told there is a lot of work northampton area. any info would be very much appreciated. my e mail is baycafealex@msn.com
the simple solution regarding agencies is, and Ive said this before is to pick up the phonebook, speak to em ALL in your area/postcode, find out their position(s) on new drivers, and spend a day going around em ALL. do as many jobs for whoever offers you the most work, and after 3-4 weeks the 1 agency who offers you the most regular work that suits you most, Id give them your P45.
Then give them priority over other agencies, whom you might work for adhock, if the first agy leaves you stood for a day or so, or they havent sorted you work for the next day by say 3-4pm, start making a few calls to the other agencies on your list (starting with 1st bestest, 2nd bestest, 3rd bestest etc) asking if they need you for the next day. making them aware your available to work. if you have mobile phone contact numbers for the agys, you could just end em a blanket TxT message to all of em, saying your available for work the next day. you may find yourself switching agencies until you settle for one who is giving you regular work that you happy with, that why I state dont give your P45 to any agency until at least 3-4 weeks down the line
had a look and they’ve got several offices in wee scotland for you.
again i’d advise signing up to several of their branches if you can.
and do what peirre suggested - get a copy of the yellow pages [or yell.com] and look at employment agencies in your area - make the agencies fight over you, not you fight over what work they may [or may not have]
Driverhire are a franchise opperation
I work for em, and others…though its not best to put all your eggs in 1 backet
Edit:
I forgot to add that when you go and visit the offices of the agencies your gonna sign up with you`ll need to take with you;
driving licence
any other licences you have…forklift,ADR etc
bank account details…sort code/acc number
proof of ID, proof of UK resedencial status…passport
proof of address…utility bill etc
P45…for proof of tax code (but keep it)
and a refreshed knowledge of the idiot test, tacho rules, highway code etc,as theyll ask you to compllete 1 while waiting.......Dont worry about the idiot test, its just to prove you have a grasp of it…and after a few weeks youll be able to do it with your eyes closed, because youll be doing em regularly everytime you sign up to a new agency, and occasionally also at a new site they send you to
ice cream man, what part of Scotland are you in?

thanks for the help guys will try a few of the suggestions. i am based near glasgow but am willing to travel to get experience. any other help will be much appreciated
Ethos Recruitment in Daventry (near Northampton) seem to have a fair bit of work around the DIRFT site at M1 J18. When I first passed my Class 2 a couple of years back there was no problem getting work for me - I was just doing odd days here and there as I already had a full time job. Their phone number is 01327 315739 - Mike Marnoch is the man for driving jobs.
Northants Drivers (01327 344483) are based at Weedon but most of their work is in/around Northampton. There are other agencies in Northampton, but I’ve no experience of them.
Ethos gave me my first driving jobs, Northants Drivers found me my first full time driving work, which has now turned into an offer of permanent employment.
There is indeed a lot of driving work around here.

i work for them. have done for some time now and i cant fault them. if a driver is no good, they are out. if a client treats our drivers like crap, contract is terminated. no messing about. they value their drivers and look after us
Scanny77,registered with them on Thursday!
It is one busy agency, that’s for sure!
Asked the cousin, about them before I signed up,all the reports he had heard were that they were a professional outfit.
Wondered what had happened to their website, when I went on old one it said domain was for sale.

i have been with them since may. although i did note a few slips here and there it was nothing major and overall they are far better than any agency i have been with in the past and some of them were good.
this lot actually value drivers over clients. strange but true. thats why they terminated their contract with tesco on monday. we were shifting their old trucks down south last week. on friday they tried to ditch me at crewe train station and they left another of our drivers at an MSA on the same day. NAS investigated it and told tesco that they wont supply them with any more drivers if thats how they are treating them.
in my experience, that is an incredible move for an agency to make. how can you fault them after they do something like that? talk about backing your drivers up
It is a pretty hectic place, there were only 2 staff in the office on Thursday P.M. trying to answer 'phones and help people fill in application forms.
They said I should apply for a Digi Tacho Card, guy who I needed to speak to on Friday, was off on the sick,so have to 'phone on Monday.

i know why they said that
seriously, they are running short of drivers for a new contract. all digital fleet which counts me out for the time being (i refuse to pay the £38 and im stubborn ) but they will get you out in the meantime. i only know of one client that requires a smart card but there are others. there are plenty who still use paper charts though so dont worry too much about it

LET THEM KNOW! they will start you on trunking to build your confidence on artics. i left class 1 courtesy of driver hire not giving me any so i lost all my confidence. NAS got me back into it and let me move onto shops at my own pace but they do need to know your situation.

no it was grangemouth although most of my work was from the west lothian office. that was a bit of a trek from stirling. so was livingston right enough but im closer now
Scanny, was thinking about registering with a couple more agencies.
Have you come across YBL recruitment at ■■■■■■■■■■■ or Manpower Driving at Grangemouth?
i have only been with D/H and NAS. i moved back up here in march from southampton so i dont know many in the area yet. avoid people power in stirling though. anyone who sends the test out by post is a bit poor in my opnion. i thought it was an insult myself
