Longs of Leeds £45000 a year?

Howdens is easy money. Not the job, no idea about it but Conor does it so it can’t be to hard as he’s a ■■■■■■■

But they aren’t averse to wasting money. We’re in Raunds and Northampton regular, maybe three times more than we need to be as we often end up getting pulled out due to the scale of ineptitude in those places. This results in a redelivery charge, easy money.

However the one actually in Howden is run well. Turn up, get tipped, away you go. Can’t ask any more than that

Brexit might mean fewer Polish workers, but an opening for Lithuanian, and Ukranian workers.

You do realise that Lithuania is already an eu member?

Walkers wasn’t on the map back in the day. It used to be Longies, Bedfords and MacFarlanes as the triangle.

MacFarlanes went…

Pop before Bedfords did. I worked nights for them on and off. This was the firm that parked a full load of flat screen tellies in a tilt right by the wall in the darkest corner of the yard. Trailer was in tatters by the morning.

Rigid drivers at Suma foods in Elland are knocking £16 ph. Another example of own account paying well!

I’ve been doing this job for 35 years and Longs of Leeds have always been renowned as one of the most crap payers in the industry.

£15.60 they are on for class 2. But it’s hard graft, heavy handball deliveries. If you’re young and fit it’d probably suit you down to the ground. A mate of mine works next door to them and chats to their drivers. I don’t know if they’ve filled it now but they were looking for another class 2 driver if anyone is interested.

We are in there daily, and load some of their chilled. I can imagine their drivers have to graft; I’ve had a few of their deliveries myself and none of the have been great drops!

Used to be known as one in the Leeds triangle.

Walkers…

Bedfords and Longs.

Now that Bedfords has gone, is it known as the old Leeds one two?

As others have suggested, 45k is maxed out, 8 nights a week, 45 hours by Wednesday malarkey in a shed of a DAF that (when I drove nights for them), smelled like it had been left on a fish dock somewhere for a week or two.

Learn your trade with these firms and then get the hell into own account operations and never ever leave.

Don’t forget Viamaster

It was Viamaster who had trailer load of tellys nicked cos i was working there when it happened. It was when they were based in Morley and a driver tipped off some local scroats which trailer was loaded. The yard backed onto a rough estate and was only separated by a wooden fence. Said driver did not get done as there was not enough proof but it was an open secret who it was

I once went in with a load of sugar in bags, and when they found out that the burst ones would be discarded because they would be contaminated, you would think I had just committed mass murder. I was asked could it not be recycled or cleaned up and re-used, etc. I got the impression they were eco warriors.

Ken.

Spoke to a pal of mine who works at Longs, and asked him about the £45k.

It is for guys on nights, working weekends, and maxxing out on everything.

Apparently, one guy has put his name forward, and it isn’t my mate either.

Walkers have been going a few years, might even be before Bedfords and Mcfarlanes were.
They used to be liveried up George Walker transport,I remember them having some old F6’s e.t.c,they used to pull out of Stourton on the Upinor plastic pipes along side Gaffers transport I seem to remember.
Don’t know what the pay rate is at Viamasters now but they never seem to advertise anymore and that warehouse on the Europort at Normanton they have always seems busy with traffic going in and out,I’m sure I got told they get £10 ph and time and half after 40hrs might be thinking of somewhere else though

Viamaster was only a tinpot company back then. Some would argue it’s still a tinpot company today  . They only had a few wagons 20+ years ago.

65 hrs in a week?
That is not a weeks work, that is an extra 15hrs on top of a normal working week.

For me, the weekly rate should always be quoted on 40 hrs work.

Agreed they should advertise either the hourly rate or the 40 hour week rate.
As mentioned earlier supermarket rates can be ok if you’re prepared to shove cages up to 18.00 per hour on Sunday days

65hours in a week. Wtf

Thats 30hours more than my normal working week.

You know a job sounds too good to be true by the very fact it’s on Indeed.

If the drivers were earning £45k for a reasonable working week & the job was great, then they wouldn’t be advertising on Indeed. The gaffer would have a waiting list.

45k a year? My mate works there and he laughed when I showed him this. The only way to earn that sort of money at Longs is if you are doing weekends, 6 shifts per week at max hours (15,15,15,13,13,13) stopping out every night and include expenses. But even that won’t happen, on average you’ll be getting 3x nights out and around 60 hours per week with a rate of around £11p/h.
Longs has a reputation of being low payers in the region, otherwise they wouldn’t be looking for drivers all the time
