Long Vehicle plates,,

I had a NEW trailer the other night, (all flash and no cash), it had all that new reflective tape round the outlines, rear and sides etc,
what i did notice was that it didn’t have any long vehicle plates on the rear…
Do these new markings negate the requirement for the plates.■■?

don’t think they have been required for years, my trailers 7 years old 45’ and i have never had them :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

found this,
dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/F … 0Guide.pdf

If it has the tape round the back you dont need Long Vehicle tags fitted but you seen the price of the bloody tape?

Far cheaper to fit the LV tags.

A few good washes and off it comes, or general wear and tear. What happends if water gets behind it, slowly on a journey it starts to come off - like a ribbon, further down the road you get a tug off VOSA, they defect it, then what?..

Prefer the Long Vehicle sign me self…

What tape are you using■■? I put the 3m tape on mine over 2 years ago and it’s still like new.
I found out the hard way if you don’t put it on straight the first time,it’s impossible to peel it back and put it back on straight, you have to cut it and start again!

The tape on the new truck at ours is getting hammered / torn when we’re using the chains when securing down palnt etc that’s all.

One year one and it looks very raggy / worn out.

All the nicks, cuts and scraps are what I would say are ‘access points’ for water etc to make a start in getting underneath, if not water, then I think it’ll be the metal rusting taking the paint the tape’s stuck to too.

Long vehicle plates are usually put in a place where they rest against buffers on loading docks, so as things are going in and out, they get scraped and peel off.

This resulted in me getting pulled off the ever busy Norfolk police a few years ago when I was at Maritime and given a ticket that got fixed as soon as I got to the depot and I didn’t get fined, but would have done if it wasn’t repaired in 14 days or 28 days, can’t remember which.
