long loads

Where i work the long loads and wide loads are picking up and six of us have been asked to be the regular drivers doing these loads. now we have already been doing 24 metre loads to the outskirts of London for some time but now we are starting on the central London sites.

What i would like is a publication of all the rules and regulations regarding long and wide loads. I was sure there was a book available for all this but i cant find it, so would anyone know where i could get a copy? Ideally i would like a pdf version so i can keep it handy on my phone. so anyone got any suggestions?

you will be very lucky to find anything as all the local councils have different rules for movements of abnormal loads, so you will have to check for each council area you pass through for their rules, thats how i see it, just do a search for abonormal load regulations and it will pop up every councils regs. not having done it for years i know things change and been out of touch with it to know fully

There is a web site i think called ABNORMAL LOADS . COM i think it may help

This website has some good info on it too.

hope you like working nights as unless its changed the met wont let anything in during the day
the amount of days i,ve wasted parked in the works unit park at the end of the M11 waiting for 8pm to come around so they can take us in , might have changed now , the last ones i did down there was 3 loads of 30 metre pipes a week for 2 years when they were building the latest parts of the north circular,
we ended up on first name terms with most of the coppers

Thanks for the links. we have taken some 20 metre by 3.5 metre wide loads in during the day, but they were to hackney. In the next couple of weeks we have the Whitechapel loads kicking off which should be interesting.

Will post some pictures when we start doing those.

May be just me … but actually knowing the law on ab loads would be a start…

Marking, attendant and notification requirements are easy to find on the web, the Transport Friend website has most listed, Individual police areas requirements are a lot harder to pin down and the only real way is to talk to the police areas ab load officer … who believe it or not tend to be fairly approachable and nearly all I have dealt with have tried to manage their constraints fairly with the hauliers requirements
