I remember reading that LDD at the time! Interesting that the owner/driver preferred his Marathon to a lot of the foreign competition and that he rated its reliability so high. You hear such widely differing opinions about Marathons. Perhaps this was a Wednesday morning model (as opposed to a Friday afternoon or Monday morning one)! Robert

I was just thinking the same thing and the driver feared the worse too when he first got the Marathon but his fears were unfounded by the sound of it .Hes compared it with a 2800 Daf and a MAN both of which he previously drove so you
ve got to respect his views ,it may not have been as fashionable as say a Volvo or a Scania but some drivers will knock motors like the Marathon without ever stepping foot in one… a great read by the way i hope more are posted
Hi Dean just read that entire article, the problem is if it took him eight days to do that job the people who wrote that article lied. A typical trip of that nature at that time would have been done in five and a half or six days max, this I know as I was doing exactly the same trips at that time, and usually to Salerno or Anzio and that only took six days max, I am not saying it was done legit but not many drivers did back then. Oh well I suppose no one wanted to drop any body in the messy stuff at the time, cheers Buzzer.

Blimey I’ve more than ‘stepped foot’ in both the 2800 and the Marathon and I’d prefer to take the 2800 just running between London and the Midlands let alone Italy.

Why cant you respect other peoples opinions for what they are■■?? this guy has driven all 3 types of vehicle on long distances and HE preffered the Marathon to the other 2 , it
s not about what you think it`s HIS opinion and he stated because he was the one who lived with them his preference .
