Ok Fergie will do next time I see Chris

I must admit I was very surprised at how many they had including one with a different grill, Chris was not sure if that was a prototype or from the motor show!

It’s the one on the extreme left and has a couple of painted bars across the grill.

Hi Rob you are quite right Charlie Tigwell did work for Hills doing Heavy Haulage.Unfortunatley he has sadly passed away a few years ago.His daughter Sally was running the CAT compound at Redbridge afew years ago.I knew charlie, and after he retired from Heavy Haulage he went to work for Folmers at Boyatt Wood they were a clearing house and was run by a bloke named Dave (can;t recall his last name,)

Suedehead: I think that is a Datsun 120Y/Cherry or similar NOT a Hillman.

Hi All
The Scammell with the different grill had a Detroit in but so did others with Detroits so iam not sure why but the 8x4 Sampson had that grill as well also the Scammell badge is at the bottom and it has 4 headlamps instead of two square ones.
The reg of this one is SNB 431 J.It was new to Avis Truck Hire in 1971 and brought by Hills in 1972 from Brinksway Motors in Stockport.
Cheers Rich

Pat
What happened to Hills, where they taken over or did they close down, intrested to know as I went to school at Hurn ,Bournemouth with Chris Hill ,he must be the same age as me,early 60,s

So THATS where they got the idea for the 118-118 adverts!

Hi All
Kerbut
Chris has just scaled down the operations and only does abnormal load escorting and consultancy.
Here is the front cover of a brochure for Leyland Military Vehicles, showing a crusader with the barred grill and round headlamps and badged a Leyland. The registration number on all of the vehicles in the brochure is 03 FM _ _ if this means anything to the experts ?
Cheers Rich

Hi Richard I think you will find that is an air operated ‘Kysor’ blind on the radiator on that military Crusader

Samson originally had the grill with bars and twin headlamps when new!

But lost the grill somehow by the time Tony Kimber had it;

Hi All
Yes that is a Kysor blind some were on the outside of the grill some on the inside
