MaggieD What I would like to know is why were you meandering around the lanes of this part of Hampshire. I presume you were trying to find where we operate from so that you could pop in and buy us all a. A total life change I realise but I have heard that to give away ones fortune makes it a lot easier to enter the pearly gates. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Should have been buy us all a drink but my keyboard skills are deteriorating with age

Richard.Hi. That 10.000 lira you gave me.Was it a gift or a loan? If it was the latter then I know that Ian has in one of his several wallets many mille lira.I think that he could be persuaded to open.“lost the key”. will not be a valid excuse Regards Charlie

Hello All
Going through my scrapbook again i came across this TRANSCON pulling a AQUILA tilt.I noticed it had Southampton with a telex number on the side does anyone have some more info on it■■?

Regards Jacko

Hello, nearly at the magic 100th page, had this in the post this morning from my pal Adrian Cypher.Jim Squibb has been mentioned loads of times on here but cant recall anyone mentioning this beauty…anyone remember it?

Cheers Bubbs,

Hi Jacko, as you can see from the side of the tilt, they used to do Portugal and i,m sure they shipped out of Soton and Poole.
They did,nt have there own tractors, it was all done by subbies i think, and i seem to remember that Youngs Transport from Eastleigh
used to go abroad then pulling for Aquila. If i,m wrong i,m sure someone will put me right.

Hi Jacko

Yes I think Tony is quite correct I seem to remember Aquila were mixed up with Jock Youngs at Eastleigh but I think they then moved to a portacabin office on Poole RoRo Terminal.

I have posted that pic before and asked if that was Merve the Swerves Transcon but then found this pic of Merves Transcon

Aquila used many Sub Contractors the late John Nichols traded as Nicost Transport and had an ex Rawlings Scania 141 before he had his Volvo Globetrotter.

Our old friend John Lee also pulled their trailers

AS yuo said Pat, John Nicholls used to pull for them and so did Kelvin Holloway, I remember when Pat Luckman had his white DAF (working for Rag Head) normally had an Aquilla tilt on

Ainacs I see you mention an ex Rawlings 141 on traction for Aquila well that F89 in the picture GHO 1N was also ex Rawlings first driven by Tony Smith and also by Mick Cairns I thought it had been written off but obviously that was not the case any more info?

Hi Ian

I think John Lee wrote it off in Portugal I have some of his pics here so will look through them sometime I get the chance, I seem to remember seeing at least one of it damaged.

Hi Tone… That came after I left, I was one of the "early " lads there, when it was run out of the bungalow at Bartley, and Jim was still riding speedway. They only had 2 Big J’s, an ERF, and an F88. Later they also got a couple of F86’s and a Scania Vabis, and then another F88, bit of mixed fleet !!

MaggieD: Not been that direction this term but it is a route that we use when the farms are ready. But spot on with the truck tho plain white 420 with a ribbed TOF bucket. If you were that close, Im sure there would have been someone here that you would know that may treat to something from the hospitality suite! Bacon sarnies are ujsually about around 11am.

CharlieUno: What was the arrangement with traniht for the precursor to the August gathering? Discuss tactics for the financial arrangements viz a viz handing dosh over the Sheppard Bar? Budgetary controls committee? £10 or 10,000lira whichever is the cheaper. Any trouble sourcing 10,000lira, wait 'til traniht arrives.

Gazzer. No arrangements have been made with Traniht except a verbal affirmation from him to me via email saying “Tell all the “lads” to just order what they want and I will square up when I get there” I personally will be arriving at around 0800.Regards Charlie
