This get together is only open to good looking babe magnets! I most definately qualify as I,m sure you do as well.As for the likes of Traniht,MaggieD,Mappo etc,You must make your own mind up.Of course everyone is welcome.I didn,t make it last as I was away on holiday, but I will be there for sure this time.Looking forward seeing some old friends and meeting up with guys I,ve got to know on the forum.Regards Charlie

Hi R-JACKO, your grandads’ lorry on W.J. Hill, Southampton is in fact an Austin and I can remember them well. The grille is the give-away, so shame on you Charlie. This is going to cost you a fortune in beer at the get together !!

Now I,ve had a closer look with my glasses on Nobby,I can see that you are correct .Where I might have a bit of luck is in the wording."Beer"Not many of us old timers are allowed to drink because of medication. However I will go to the post office and draw out a fiver.Should be enough.Regards Charlie
Charlie,
R-JACKO’s Grandad’s lorry was supplied by Carey & Lamberts Austin House The Avenue Southampton,
which is ironic as Carey Street is where you are going to end up after you’ve brought all the “Babe Magnets” beer in August !!
Where’s GAZIOW ? are we still coming to see you in Alton ?
Saw Ian Lawson in the week still running his F12 which he’s had from new and is a credit to him,I remember shipping out with him on it’s first trip in 1980 !
Regards Richard

Hi Richard. Re Ian Lawson. He bought my old F88 from Rawlings reg no VCG 668H and ran it for a long time. Then I saw it in French Dairy Farmers colours years later. It must have done millions of miles.Where the hell is GAZIOW.Seems to have dissappeared into the mist. If we can raise him then lets get on.As you know I,m knocking on a bit now and I don,t have many years left R-JACKO.Sorry I don,t know your first name.I never worked for Eric but I had a few rows with him.( I had a few rows with everyone ) Regards Charlie

hello maggied you must spent a bit of time down skillbeech yard you spoke to my brother a few weeks back down there
Hi Pat, I went to a barbie this arvo and got talking to a bloke from Southampton who is travelling around Oz in his campervan, as he mentioned that he is an ex lorry driver I mentioned this site which he has never heard of . I told him that there was a thread called Long Departed Southampton Hauliers and asked if he had heard of you and he said that he did and that he used to know Colin Harris. This blokes name is Dave Elkins and he used to work for Barbour European, he is on his way to the Barrier Reef for a couple of weeks and I have told him to call in on his way back. Do any of you Southampton lads remember him ? or has anybody got any Barbour European photos ?.

Hi Steve, yes I remember Dave Elkins who drove for Drunken ooops sorry, Duncan Barbour. They used to ship mainly out of Southampton. Many on here will know him and if he looks at the site he will also know many So’ton drivers on here.
I’m not saying Dave was the same but most of their drivers occupied the bar for best part of the trip. (mind you we are talking about the Scottish contingent----no disrespect !)
Regards,
Nobby.
Hi R-JACKO, no I didn’t drive for Bakers at all but did knew a lot of their drivers over the years. In fact I have spent many an hour with them in such places as Parrifin Annie’s (Bobs’ of Kidlington) The Lincoln Farm, Hampton in Arden etc. However my brother Ennis drove for them on heavy haulage for some time, in fact you may have seen him pictured on this site stood by one of their early Scammels.
Regards,
Nobby.
Re Dave Elkins.I thought that he also worked for Sea Route.Am I right? Also Ian Elkins Nice guy but a little bit argumentative. If you said it was Sunday,he would say “Monday”.Fancy Dave popping up in Oz.Small world eh?. Nobby.I,ve broken my mobile phone. Can you PM me with your number.Lots to tell you.How did you ever get any work done after sitting around in cafes all day? Good days eh? Regards Charlie
Hi gazzap,
Spend a bit of time there when I’m not tipping |Genoa/Savona & reloading washing machines out of Bergamo in this
Dave Elkins used to be on Borden Chemicals North Baddesley, with Barry Stafford who was also one of the Barbour Southampton crew together with Mick Collier, and Kevin (R.I.P.)
Great blokes to run with, and the Scottish lads,Sinclair,Billy Mac,Cockney Roy,Willie Munroe,Ian Lennox and the rest, always played hard and worked hard,Happy Days !

Hi all, i,m back and apart from Jimski ( thanks mate ) obviously forgotten about.
I,ll let you off though Richard forgetting that i was on for Barbours for a while.
For the benefit of mushroomman here,s a couple of pics of my old Barbours MAN. ( apologies if you,ve seen them before and for the crap quality )
This one taken in Nice while waiting to tip
and this was at a French Routiers south of Lyon i think. Jim Street and Maureen in photo.
Hya Nobby, in your post you mentioned Bobs cafe in Kidlington which i remember well and also Lincoln Farm.
Well just to let you know mate that Lincoln Farm is still going strong and as busy as ever. ( no adult entertainment upstairs in the bar anymore though)
In fact i stop there a couple of nights a week ( the firm i now drive for have an account there for overnight parking )
It,s not changed at all but to be honest it could do with a bit of refurbishment. Grubs still good though and plenty of it.
Two other old cafes i still stop at that you,ll remember well are The Hollies on the A5 near Cannock and Jacks Hill at Towcester.
Regards to everyone on here and R-JACKO keep them photos coming.
