Well Pat Scorey and George Eames came in today

PBC did have coal yard at Fishers Pond used 8 wheelers to take scrap to Midlands or Wales then coal back, then they cut them down into tractor units and started TIR work. Spirit of Dot a Foden that went into the drink in Le Havre loaded with candles was such a vehicle!

Tony as regards Mick or Mike I asked Pat and he said Mick Madgewick a short ex taxi driver who got into debt with Frank Allen and had to work it off in the yard for a long time, something to do with running money sticking to his fingers apparently.

Regards Pat

Hi Pat, I think old Scorey P may have forgotten Mick Hayes who was a good buddy of Bob Emerton-Crutch. I remember them roaring around in Bob’s Pontiac Parisienne convertible wearing stetsons. This is who Mappo’s probably talking about.

As regards Mick Madgewick, he was something else, once caught cooking up in his cabin on the Thoresen ferry. His debt to Frank Allen was (allegedly) incurred through selling a full book of UTA tickets for £20!!! He always wore overalls and hobnail boots, summer and winter all over Europe.

Hi Gaz

I thought that Tony had worked for Mick Hayes driving the ex BRS Middle East Marathon above!!

Yeah Pat you’re right and just when I thought the dementia hadn’t got me!!!

Badger…MIFS is a 40 odd year old joke mate.
When i was a nipper of 16 or 17 years young , i worked with Fergie47 and Jim Street for a fruit and veg. firm in Park Gate.
I worked in the warehouse loading and unloading the lorries while Fergie was a driver.
The company used to supply Woolworths stores in the south with daily orders of fruit and veg,eg. a dozen boxes of this,
half a doz. of that, etc.etc.
I used to load a hand pulled trolley ( called a dilly i think ) from around the warehouse and then unloaded from that onto
the lorries.
You may have noticed Badger that i " get a bit of stick" on this thread, well i did then too. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
They used to refer to me as Mapsons International Freight Services.

Just thought that some of you guys on this thread might have known ‘Hanzy’
I’ve put it on the ‘Davies International’ and the PDF threads.

This is a link to an article that was in my local paper today about a driver who passed away recently
halifaxcourier.co.uk
The Final Journey for a Lorry Lover

His wife said in the article that, Alnis Hans (Hanzy) from Halifax, last job was with ‘Davies International, Hampshire’ and he used to go away for six weeks at a time, and that he had done European work for all of his driving life.

If any of you guys worked with him I hope this hasn’t come too much of a shock, he was only 56 :exclamation:

My condolences to his family and fiends.

Regards
Dave Penn;

shame of course, i worked with him briefly at murfitts around 1996 - believe he worked for W&W (billy) Potter also, subbing to offshore transport at scunthorpe doing spain late 80s

Thanks for the Info Pat,
I did,nt know the guy personally, but that,s tragic. Too young to go at 62 years old.
