Hi I was at Danny Dovey’s 60th birthday party last night at Minstead Village Hall in the New Forest for only a short while but so many people connected with transport were there, here are a few Jeff Townsend,Barry Winters, Bill Wettering, Tom Andrews, Rob Rymer, Martyn Offer, James Bailey, Gary Amey, Tony Lowden, Paul Stevens, John Weaver, Jimmy Alford, Richard (Shiny Boots), Richard Maidment,Billy Coles (Fun Fair), Robert Coles (The Tractor Man from Shaftesbury) and many more connected to vintage lorries and steam engines it’s a shame I didn’t take my camera there was even an old vintage Foden tractor unit outside.
But it was a shame but I had to go after a very short while as Sue wanted to go elsewhere.
Regards Pat
Aniacs you should have come back it was well wild later with a mild striptease by Danny & Joe at the end not accompanied by the Full Monty

Hi Richard no it is definitely a road that 'barrier was just a mark on the pic! I think the man in overalls waving must be the same one walking along side! The cars behind a Ford Popular/Prefect then a Standard Vangaurd and in the distance a Morris Minor!
Regards Pat
Pat
I will ask Monty when I see him he may know.
Hi Pat
Me again the picture is in the Hill book but with no caption, but closer up & the front Scammell doesnt have a driver so perhaps it had just been added for the hill the Standard in the picture is in a few more in the book so perhaps it is Hills?
Cheers Rich

Chris Hill phoned me earlier and informs me that the location is A34 Beacon Hill southbound and the machine is a Limer802 he thinks the driver walking along side was Bill Miles the driver of the middle lorry would have been Gordon Prebble and the rear wrecker was probably driven by Reg Boyce out of the workshop!!
Regards and thanks to Chris.
Another one today no idea what this is looks like a Thonycroft Antar! Don’t know when these were taken but it was 1965 or later as the Mini is a C reg.
The text with the clipping read’s
A one hundred and thirteen ton load load passed along Basingstoke By-Pass with a police ■■■■■■ on Monday on its way to Farnborough from Southampton Docks. The 90ft long, 22ft 6in high and 18ft. 9in wide ‘Flame Trap’ is for Aircraft Research Establishment.

Hi Pat & All
Bubbs has told you where she is now.
She is a Rotinoff Atlantic called Fearnought she was bought by Tom Sunter of Sunter Bros of Northallerton.
Rotinoffs were built by George Rotinoff in Slough he was born in Russia & his parents brought him to England when he was 2.
The Rotinoffs were based on the Diamond T a 6x4 with a Rolls Royce engine & six speed box with 3 speed transfer box giving her a top speed of 48 mph.
RPY 767 is one of 3 bought by Sunters to move heat exchangers from the estuary of The Blackwater River in Essex to the new Bradwell power station a distance of about 1&1/2 miles.
The heat exchangers were made by Head Wrightsons in Thornaby & floated to Essex they weighed 235 tons,92ft long & 12ft in diameter, the need for 3 was because the gradient from the River was 1 in 10. Once on level ground Fearnought did the job on her own grossing about 300 ton a British record at the time(1958).
The trailer in the original photo & the Dorset one are Cranes of Norfolk the Dorset one is earlier than the Sunter one. They are called Girder trailers & have a capacity of 150 tons.
Fearnought was repainted in 1981 & since then has lived in the Science Museum at Wroughton.
The one in the Dorset picture is UAS 407 at the time belonging to Tony Jordan but he did have an auction a bit back so it may not be his any more.
This is one of 3 imported by J.Walker in about 1991 they were ex Swiss Army & at least one of which was ex South African Army.
In Switzerland they carried Centurion Tanks on Scheuerle trailers.
There was also a Super Atlantic which had a 8 cylinder engine of 16.21 litre.
I think all this is correct but I am only a steering wheel attendant so if I am wrong Im sure the experts will put me right.
Regards
Rich
Hi another couple of old pics no information I’m afraid except it says Sparrow on the headboard is that the same as the crane hire people? Anyone know any more such as the location? It’s the Star and Garter Hotel at the end of the street and is that Andover on the shop sign to the left?
Regards Pat

Hi All
Just back peddling a little , while the thread on Offers was on I was racking the grey matter to remember the crane driver in Offers yard on the old RB ." Oscar " , it all comes back how he would swing containers high in the air sometimes in high winds with a lad on top to release the set of brothers and land it spot on your tistlocks , wheres OS
today , great Fella. Years previously in the late 60s and early 70s when the yard was Heinzs I was based there , it was called the BRS Mobile ,with an old British rail mobile office on iron wheels being used as our office for Pirrelli work . By the by it
s just taken me four attemps to send this ,the new format really is playing up on my computor .
Frenchy
Well if Im not very much mistaken that pic of Eric Bakers lot is taken outside the Wheatsheaf pub on the now A33 but back a few years could have been the A30 coz I cant remember where the junction of the two was actually situated.
It is now where the slip from the eastbound A303 joins the A33 approx 3 miles north of Micheldever.
Somebody let me know if I am right and also can anybody remeber the old road layout?
