Pat: Did you know Chris Hiscocks who had a body shop unit on “possibly” Glebe Farm A36 at the Whiteparish turn? (Where you would turn off for BKG’s yard and next to Holmere’s yard). He did a cracking spray job on my F10 there with his Dad.
Tony Kimber was somewhere up around there too. EWas it “Fizz” that was the “Security Dept” in his yard, working from an old wooden railway goods body?
Talking of alternative living accommodation; Alistair used to live in a 40ft box on Bakers Wharf for Skillbeech.
I think Chris was probably up in Ray Coates yard where Dave Coombes the Volvo spares man, Bob Cartwright, Richard Hood and Barry Barnes and some others all have parts of the yard.Fizz is still there in the yard so Barry told me that other day.
Chris was a very talented man could weld fabricate spray had done allsorts and had been an excellent stock car driver
Unfortunately Chris’ dad has died and last time I saw Chris was some years ago in the Peg and Parrot in Rumbridge Street Totton when I was waiting for a curry from opposite the pub. He looked absolutely terrible thin gaunt and he had really aged not sure if he had had a heart attack or what, he was that bad that I did not recognise him till he called me over I was shocked I have not heard of him since.
many thanks to fergie47 , bev wyatt , pat and indeed everyone else for recent replies and post , and everyone elses contributions , making this soton hauliers a truly fantastic thread

morning pat, iv just been browsing through some of the early postings on this thread and see you mentioned an old friend of mine,SHAUN MORAN,i first met shaun when i worked for SCA out of stepney in london, and the last i saw of him was when he was on for comptons down in pool,if i remember right shaun lived in ringwood,so me and shaun go back quite a way, are you or any of the lads on here in touch with him, if so give him my best regards, cheers. BEV.
Did he have the clean white towel around his neck then Bev. ? I think Shaun is still living in Ringwood and someone mentioned on here a while back that he is driving a van on courier work for his son Chris.
many thanks for your quick response kerbut, that comment on the white towel made me laugh mate, mr immaculate i used to call him, didnt matter what job shaun had given to him,he never seemed to get dirty, great fella though had a few meals out with him in the SCA days down in turin, spoke real good italian and frence, always came across as a well educated guy to me, but he certainly new his job,but i could never understand why he went and worked for comptons,he usualy went for the more up market jobs, but i supose he worked a deal with mark, that was the last time i saw him, before i moved from shaftesbury, once again many thanks for the info. BEV.
I havn’t seen Sean Moran for years infact last time was when I was running with him and Micky ‘Olio’ Cairns when they were both on for Comptons and we had TV’s on and decided to go over Cenis!! Sean had an Ex Ian Elkins F89 sandy/brown in colour I think.
Before that I had first met Sean when he was on for Sea Route Ferry in Empress Rd Southampton.
Don’t know what he is doing now but I had heard from someone that he had lost his HGV for some reason or other however I do speak with Mark Compton occasionally and next time I will ask if he knows what Sean is up to!!

Hi Bev
I remember Cashmore only knew him as that, he was Sea Route through and through I was very surprised when they sacked him! Last time I saw him he was selling insurance but he always struck me as being highly strung so it was no surpise when one day someone told me he had committed suicide!
I believe the name in Italy was Transitalia not far from Italmondo who were Jamesons partners in Italy. It was on their Kangaroo trailers.
Ian phoned me the other day and we had a chat, can’t remember what it was he wanted now Didn’t really know his brother Dave that well didn’t he go to work for Barbours in Scotland with Kevin Connolley RIP and Barry Stafford■■? I’m sure our learned colleagues will know.
You mentioned Bordens when I lived in Empress Rd there was a Bordens driver used to live a short way away Harry Day had a Seddon Atkinson 400 witha 240 Gardner ( is that possible?) I think and ran abroad, apparently the windscreen kept popping out!! I believe Bob Cartwright was on there too had a Seddon day cab and did Italy in that! They shipped on TTRH’s account.
