Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Well as TIR Tone has put in an appearance and he has proffered no guess as to “Fabert” on the Tshirt, I will have to tell!

“Fabert” was the warehouse in North Milan where we used to tip the tellies after the Milan Grand Prix. I blagged a couple from one of the warehouse lads for me an 'er!

Shame on you all!

Gazzer if i remember right when you got cleared customs with them tellys it was open warfare on the tanginale to get to that warehouse, first to get tipped, as it wasn’t even safe to be on the road outside. I dont think anybody took notice of the name of the place as most went there week in week out and just wanted to get unloaded pronto.Personaly i preferred to do the longer jobs as you had a better chance of getting reloaded more quickley and nine times out of ten you would catch up the blokes who went to Milan. Most of them spent a day pickin up stuff for other people to load later in the week.

You’re right there John, The Milano (Rogoredo-Cinisello Balsamo??)Tangenziale Ovest Grand Prix (to give it it’s full name) free for all. First out of Rogoredo customs was NO guarantee to arrive at Fabert’s first. It was cut throat driving with the French in the mix too.

Gazzer…you,re right mate, i should have known that. :unamused: :unamused:
What a job…tip the tellies, do a collection or three then top up at Italmondos if lucky
then across the road at Vialle Certosa for a good nosh and some bevvies.

Correct me if im’e wrong didn’t somebody lose a load from outside that faberts place, seems to ring a bell.

Yeh they did Buzzer…cant remember who though.
After that happened we were allowed to park inside off the road.
I seem to recall one of Sts,s losing one from Vialle Certose as well but
i think that had Estee Lauder on.

Alot of that happened to the dutch but they got crafty, the geezers nickin got the load information from bent customs men so they used to swap high value loads with low value ones once down the road from the border and thus avoiding loseing the big one. Can you remember when there were a few bogus police cars about , i remember you tellin me they tried to stop you and you thought better to get to the services, so when they went on the hard shoulder and you carried on they soon caught you up with a sub machine gun stickin out the window, at that point you made the wise decision to stop otherwise i would have had a tractor unit like a cullender not to mention all the vino runnin out of you.

Yeh i remember that Buzzer, it was on the A4 between Turin and Milan.
When i pulled into Novara services they were,nt very happy that i did,nt stop sooner
but understood why…they let me go.

Another Mary Hopkins moment Jim.

Not now Jim , not in a truck maybe in the back seat of your limmo, cos you would know the good places to stop, but we’d have to keep to the old route nationals though mate.

Charlie…sorry mate, i cant remember who that was.

Concorezzo aye, cleared in there many times as we all did, usually withthe ISR
rubber that we used to take down for Colin Wilkes when he was running Hocfun.
I got broken into one night myself in the town outside…was it Lauras bar ■■?
They nicked all of my personal gear ( i,m sure that some of you will think they did me a favour :unamused: :unamused: )
and when shipping home i had to wear my overalls on the ferry and was mistaken by a few punters as a crew member. :open_mouth:
That aside, i spent many a good night and occasional weekend there.

Now then Tone they never nicked all your gear cos you still had the short shorts, black socks and sandles, thats why you wore ur overalls on the ferry just to save your own embaressment you cant denie that.

Me is thinking this is Concorezzo ■■?

Is that right Tone ■■?

Looks like it to me Jim,albeit on a quiet day, unless you overslept while clearing customs. :unamused: :unamused:

Wasent it a dutch driver that caught some thief in his cab and they held him on the ground and drove the frount wheel on his hands in concorrezzo also i remember parkin in milan by the cafe we all went to ,cant remember the name but was by a security park after tippin teles and this dutch driver was goin from one english truck to another lookin for a rope (most of us had one to pull tilt sheet up) they had caght an i ti nickin out of one of theres and they were goin to hang him of the flyover but carribinari turned up and probabley saved his life. Can any one else remember that,at least the Dutch didn’t faf around, they ment bizzness when they caught some one.

I only remember Concorezzo being a bit of waste ground and if you were lucky you could park on a bit of sporadic concrete. Not sure whether I actually had to clear customs there ever, just spent a few weekends there. Bob Edwards F10 was nicked from there and found at Monza stripped out. Would have been just over a year old. (The truck not Bob!). I did spend one of those first weekends there with Phil Grant who introduced me to Milano, The Lunar Park and all the dodgy goings on around that area! Illuminating and not just the Big Wheel.

I do remember Phil Grant always kept his wallet tucked into his belt at the frount, he always said if anybody can get that close to grabbin his balls without him retalliating they could have his wallet.
