I got some info from Steve Hobart the other day, Graham wainwright recently passed away. Further enquiries confirmed (by his son) that he succumbed to Covid 19, very rapidly. If I remember anything that Graham did have a respiritory issue not helped by his Disque Bleue or Gitannes penchant. First met him at Eurohaul and when they evaporated he tried his luck with the Danes.
Here he is at a recent August bash.
RIP Graham
Hi gazzer, i did her the other day about Mr Wainright but was waiting for confirmation before saying any thing. As you say he did like a Gitainne or two but he was a very nice, very widely traveled man by all account’s will be sadly missed. RIP Graham.

If anyone can find out when the funeral is, i know we will not be able to go but we could all have a drink in his memory at the same time. I seem to remember he liked a Ricard as well.I just happen to have a bottle i will drink on his behalf. ( it’s pastis 51 ) but i prefer it.
Hi All,
Sad news indeed Graham was a great character ran with him a few times, as you say Kevin he was well travelled he was one of the first Astrans drivers and had some great tales to tell.
Our thoughts are with his family.

Hi All
Sadest news about Graham
The first person I actually know to die from the Covid 19 virus.
As every one has said a great chap with a story and to the bullsh*ters he had done it
There is an account of his work with Astran in the book about them.
We may be able to go to the funeral because there is such a large backlog in these unpresidented times.
Cheers
Rich

Oh yes should pay more attention did not realize Paul had put that on yesterday. always been a bit slow.
Hi all, John some good picture’s there of Graham. I remember going into Salerno one day as you come off the Autostrada towards the dock’s i was going to clear custom’s with skin’s. There was a Eurohaul F89 with a low loader and a big fork lift. Convoy Exceptional it was Johnny Coffin he had been there a couple of day’s got all the way down to there from Le Havre and got a pull 5 km’s from the port. Anyway stopped for a chat and he said if i or anyone else was coming down the following week could they bring ■■■’s and whiskey. Blow me i went down the following week did as i was told took ■■■’s and whiskey and yes he was still there. Next time i saw him he had sat there nearly 3 week’s. It really was a good job in those day’s,If it was the same i would ship out tomorrow. I think, but i have had a couple of beer’s.
Hi Kev
Is that cider tinted glasses
Cheers Rich
Not today mate i have to alternate so i don’t get bored as i say beer tonight. But back on the cider tomorrow night, odd bottle of wine thrown in just to keep my hand in just in case i do ever board a ferry again.
From FB Gazzer and Doss RIP top of Mt Cenis happy days, Buzzer
Just heard from Dave Hooper that George Thorne (Robert Armstrong) has passed away
Sent from my EML-L09 using Tapatalk
Hi all, that’s more sad new’s RIP George.
DEANB on the Paul Gee site wondered if this photograph was taken in Southampton
I think the location is the old Northam gasworks fronting Belvedere Rd,which today is the site of St Mary’s football Stadium
The F 86 is probably one of William Harper’s ACL contract vehicles.Wm Harper were an old established Liverpool haulier & were part of T.D.G.They had a number of contract vehicles in ACL livery.
The 125 GTW Scammell Contractor was one of 32 Contractors which Pickfords purchased between 1967 & 1970. This particular vehicle-VLH 434G entered service with Pickfords in Feb 1969.
After service with Pickfords,it went on to perform a variety of roles at Austen Brothers Circus.

Another of the 32 Pickfords 125T Scammell Contractors was SJD 801F. It was the first of a batch of 7 which entered the Pickfords fleet between Jan & March 1968.
Hills of Botley acquired the Contractor & here it’s seen in 1980 unloading an American built railway locomotive from an ACL vessel @ 201 Berth Southampton
Later in it’s life,it appears to have been used as a recovery vehicle.
IIRC Hill’s also acquired one of the Pickfords 240T Contractors, perhaps Dispatcher can confirm.
