IIRC, P Brady & Sons were a civil engineering/tarmac company based in Northam. They did some general haulage (brown F88 ?) They were "absorbed " into Meachers Transport in 1983. Brady’s TM then operated as ANCO Trucking from Ealing Wharf.

Evening Gazzap, don’t forget I was truck salesman for many years.

Morning all,
Does anyone know if a company called Black Lion transport is still going, ran out of a trading estate west of Andover on the old Luggershal road.
Gary and his mom and dad ran it. Harvey

Hi HRS…
Don’t know … But remember applying for a job there!
They turned me down , so obviously a respectable company with high standards

Used to see Black Lion lorries in and around Andover all the time up until a few years ago but, I haven’t seen one on the road for ages. However i was on the A303 the other week and there’s some sort of yard next to the Micheldever turning (east bound) full of lorries and trailers (mainly Metcalfe Farms and Danabb) and low and behold sat in there, is a yellow unit (couldn’t see what it was) with the Black Lion/Lion Noir sign writing on it. Don’t know whether they’re still trading or not.
Of course, once upon a time, there were quite a few haulage companies operating in and around the Andover area, as well as a few, fair sized, own account fleets. Off the top of my head, I can remember Fluens Transport, Howard Tenens, Lenham Storage, Bulldog/Mammoth, Grays/Andover Transport, Black Lion, Kenneth Wilson, E & L Knight, Shearing & Loader, Dunnings and Purbeck Plant.
Nowadays Howard Tenens & Lenham still have Andover based depots, XPO operate out of the Co-op RDC, Frontier Grain operate out of the old Kenneth Wilson grain silo, Switch/TWT have a yard across the tracks from the railway station/flour mill and Ocado and Bookers (I think) have distribution centres on the Walworth Industrial estate.

Wow “cockerdog” you just placed me in some time warp there.
I called on them all in my time. Ron, at Switch bought an F7 draw bar outfit from me ************** years ago, trailer with a wheel in each corner and an A frame, everything dark blue.
Delivered it late one day when the little estate was empty and Ron said, stick it over there Harvey, allongside the fence.
Well, to try and back this in caused me to pull forward so many times I was nearly leaving the estate when a little German in a Draw bar Merc pulled in and so when I asked him if he would do it for me Ron and I fell about as he nearly forgot to put his hand brake on in his excitement to get in the little volvo and in one quick hit, it was in, amazing what a propper driver can do. Harvey

Cliff luxton:
Had lunch with this young man today, good catch up and lots of old stuff chatted about.

Hi Cliff,

Hope you are well, here’s Roy’s brother Gordon, just woken up in Italy.

In 1960, Rickmans Transport Ltd, Ringwood Road,Bransgore was acquired by Victory Transport Ltd & the 18 vehicles transferred to Rownhams. One of Rickmans drivers who transferred to Victory was D.W.Penny Clearing houses were an important part of the haulage industry & when empty,a driver was often expected to find his own return or next load & drivers built up their own contacts for loads
Doug Penny left Victory & drove for Foots Transport, Ringwood & by 1969,was running Foots Transport (Southampton)Ltd a clearing house with an office in Queens Terrace, then Canute Road. A move to Latimer St was followed by their final move to Oxford House,Oxford St. Foots application for an O licence met with opposition from a well known Southampton haulier who, though never having carried baled wool, was quite prepared to object to a new haulier who would . The first vehicle, was a Leyland followed by a 1974 Guy Big J.
Foots never operated more than 3 vehicles(+ Eric Foot’s Ford A series on specials & dock running ) & the operating centre was Lorraine’s. Foot’s would take on any work not just wool & other dock work eg-Lec Refrigeration, Bognor Regis

C407 FVR a 1985 Renault was purchased second hand

Hi all the first picture off the Renault must have been taken in Lorrains it look’s like one off Mr Mackness’s Mercedes park beside it.

Another pic from the Scrapbook thread with a Southampton link

This time a pair of Molo Transport Fodens, I think that this pic was taken on 105/6 berth Southampton docks you can seee the container terminal in the distance. I know that Roger Whitehorn bought some of these Fodens from Molos and operated them for a while on containers.

Regards Pat

The Blue Star line vessel in the background was like Molo part of Union Cold Storage

Another picture obviously taken at the same time of the S83 Foden OYR 314 R

Union Cold Storage, also Union Cartage, and Weddells, all part of the vast Vestey empire which, among other things was the importer of Rotinoff tractors for their road trains in the Northern Territory of Australia.

Also a very early employer of mine (58 years ago) when I was nobbut a lad before even having a driving licence. Talking to those drivers delivering meat to the depots (Nottingham and Bedford) where I worked only served to re-inforce my fascination for all things lorry and made me determined to be a driver.

Jameson Scania.

soton jameson.PNG.jpg

Hi all, from the look of the house’s and street lights good chance the picture off the Jameson Scania could be Le Havre on the road outside the dock. But possibly not. :sunglasses:

Did Jameson ever do the tomatoes from Weymouth? , those street lights and houses behind look like Weymouth near The Pavilion.

As discussed previously:
Dinner/lunch gathering in February.
I suggest Sunday the 17th for lunch to accommodate the travel arrangements for Gary and Steve from the IOW.
Location suggestions. My suggestion is The Windmill at Windhover J8 M27. Easy access to all. Can’t think of anywhere Lower M3 or western M27 that is any easier to get to.
PM/text/message me asap.

Sound’s good Gazzer that will please her indoor’s drop me then M&S at hedge end what sort of time are you thinking.Around midday maybe will it need to be booked to get on a table all together.■■? :sunglasses:
