Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Hi Richard Thanks for that I was just interested as I was just a kid at the time and did a couple of trips abroad with Gordon Smith from Mammoths, just happened to come across these old photos earlier.Would you know if Mammoth had a LHD Transcon or Leyland around that time or is that something I’ve imagined ?

Fergie47:
Haven’t seen Mappo on here for a bit, is he OK ?..

I’d wondered why Mappo hadn’t posted for a while, and knowing he hasn’t been too good health wise lately, I called him.

Going to try to be diplomatic here…

As most of you know, he’s not a well man, so, bearing that in mind, what he had to say made sense.

He’s not posted recently because he’s tired of the micky taking, some times it goes a little too far, and can in fact be quite hurtful. It’s like the bloke down the pub who tells you the same old joke time after time, in the end it gets tedious and boring, and that’s how he feels about some, not all, of the comments he gets…Now, he does not need or want any apology from anyone , because he knows that it’s just been “lorry driver banter” but, perhaps it will be wise of us pee takers,
(me included) to back off.
When you’re in pain, (and many of us have been there) banter can touch a nerve, and can easily become sarcasm, then, it’s not quite so funny, I know you’ll all understand, and therefor, let’s all respect his wishes…

Fergie

Well said Fergie. I was aware as have swopped pm’ s with the old turnip.
Miss his input on here , hope we see him back soon.

There’s only one T.I.R. Tone ( ain’t that a blessing )… Joking Mappo, hurry back.

Fergie that is quite diplomatically put as we all take the ■■■■ but when it is spoken you have forgotten about it 30 seconds later but when it is written on a thread it is there every time you go onto the thread so when people over step the mark you are reminded at each visit.
Bewick was saying on another thread that things have gone quiet and this could be for similar reasons

cheers Johnnie

I too have had words with Tony and I think we should shift the urine taking. Here goes. How’s about Fergie who kisses his tractors goodnight. Buzzer who kisses his horses and Scattercash who takes his money out and after counting it kisses that goodnight.Personally all I kiss is my reflection before going to bed. Regards Charlie  8

Charlie how dare you, how very very dare you, I will have you know snogging a horse is better than a woman as they have much bigger tongues than woman and it does not stop there but we wont go into that, and by the way mine are all boys and no im’e not that way either, Buzzer.

Buzzer:

John. Not for one moment did I have any thoughts about you having any thoughts about you and your beautiful horses. So from now on may I suggest that a chaste kiss on the cheek will suffice e. Regards Charlie :

I will ask Mappo on Saturday night what is troubling him. Having a nosh and some vino in Kingsworthy with a few others prior to my return to sunnier climes and Crimbo.

Well done Gazza.

I didn’t realise you lived in Chrimbo…

I had the impression that Gazza lives in Cloud cuckoo land.No offence intended. Gary. Regards Charlie.

It was Short notice but it would be great if we did it again, so see you there next time ! But I wouldn’t walk 3 miles for a pint !! :unamused: there might be more money in Shepparding than driving a truck Kev !!

Consensus said we would do it again in Feb 2016 when i am here again. Steve Matthews would have come except for a prior engagement and pint Size was peddling his taxi as its the lead up to crimbo. So bear it in mind y’all!

coming from the the land of buxton water where we are more restrained , i was tempted by the old saying " if the devil should cast his net now "on seeing that photo . but then i thought of the long arm of the southampton mafia . oops now i’ve done it .
