A Hill’s Seddon

A question that Chris Hill or somebody else might be able to answer…
In the late 60’s and early 70’s I lived in Outlands Lane Botley, not far from Hills yard and the M.O.T. truck and H.G.V testing station… the scene of my triumphant first time pass in 1974… ( Very good… Now try and get a job!! ) There was a driver who worked for Hills and also lived in Outlands Lane…all I can remember is that he was a very large bloke and that he had a heart attack whilst in Wales ( I think ) whilst away on a job for Hills. He survived and I remember becoming friendly with him in later years but cant remember his name…
Also, another driver… Dave somebody…small bloke used to drink in the Railway Inn and I think he lived out near The Cricketers at Shedfield…( what a great little pub that was then!, 'til they " modernised " it… ) he had a Brother called Ian who had a fruit and veg shop. Answers on a Post card please…

Just as an aside, I remember that the late , great and very heroic “Blondie” Hasler also lived in Outlands Lane… by the railway bridge and that as an uncoof yoof of 18 or so had no idea of who he was and what he did  I am sure, remembering Scorey P’s military knowledge, he would be ashamed of me…

Hi Baldrick
Steve Wimbush from the CVRTC has done an artical on Palmers, he is after more pictures if you have any.

Hi Rich…thanks for info…excuse my ignorance, what is CVRTC?
I have no pictures, sorry. Now you mention it, I remember the AEC’s

That prompted another memory of the AEC factory, I lived near that in Norwood Green, West London…remember it now nearly 50 years later… cheers, balders.

Hi Balders

Your making the memory cells work overtime now, only two names come to mind at the momoent,
I don’t know if either lived in Outlands Lane.
Auther Cave (RIP) but i seem to think that was on the A1 and not in Wales.
Bill Jacobs but I dont think either him or his brother Walt lived in Curdridge could have been Botley.
Another who used the Railway quite alot and lived in the caravan site at the rear was Charlie Knight (had a glass eye)
and did enjoy lots of liquid refreshment.
Memory is shot now!!!

regards dispatcher
