One lane open due to roadworks, that is not the problem, they have work to do, the problem was no warning on the gantry signs, no warning on the radio, the queues were spectacular, cars and trucks everywhere, this was midnight when i was stuck in it, around Junction 18 area.
Where did all the cars come from at this time of night ?
Did anyone else get caught out in this, and why no warnings, i normally check the HA website if in doubt of overnight road works or closures ?
Surely some radio stations can do a 24 hour traffic report, but nothing this time.

Yesterday was particularly busy, but with roadworks that are lane closures only. the gantry signals are only set whilst the roadworks crews are putting out the cones & hard signs and when they’re bringing them in later during the night, they are switched off once the closure is fully installed.
Once the cones and hard signage is out, there should be temp signage at 1 mile, 800yds, 600yds, 400yds, & 200 yds prior to the cones starting. If everyone sorted themselves out early enough instead of running right up to the cones in the closed lanes, then stopping the open lane so as to squeeze in, traffic would run better.
It’s only for full closures that the electronic signs will give prior warning from a distance.
