Londonderry park

Coming up A1 northbound noticed that access road to Londonderry lorry park has gone, heard that there are no plans to construct a new one and the place is closing when new A1 is complete, so another, at a guess 100? overnight parking spaces gone, also further north the old Forth Bridge services site is being closed to trucks, the old question where are we meant to go when parks close with no alternative.

Have a word with the eggman, he often pops up on this subject. He is based at Londonderry Lodge

i hope they new catering in then as londonderry lodge has the same reputation to me as the old ross on wye cattle market.

Mr Exelby also owns Whitwood, and came on here last year to ask opinions. We gave, and nothing has changed.

Let’s hope the new Leeming will not go down the same route then.

Ken.

another [zb], i wish would close.

I’ve never stopped at Londonderry. Only ones I’ve stopped at round there are Quernhow (puke smiley) and that Bistro place on the southbound side which was a decent breakfast, albeit a little pricey iirc.

What we need is hunter40 to expand nationwide!!! :grimacing:

Michael aka the eggman did ask about both services on the A19 and they have improved according to the thread, except for lucys shower.

Londonderry is a typical world war 2 cafe, it looks like there are still POW working in the kitchen, the paintwork is full of lead but it is quite safe as it has a protective layer of fat everywhere.

Londonderry is a typical world war 2 cafe, .

The windows have tape across them and under each seat is a helmet, one chair has a rifle selotaped to the underside and the other chair has a full magazine with a set of instructions attatched to it

“The one with the rifle shoots! The one without follows him! When the one with the rifle gets killed, the one who is following picks up the rifle AND SHOOTS”

I suggested the place to one of the lads for the comic value, just like the Hollies but not in a good way…

POW in the kitchen hahaha…

I use Londonderry quite a lot (or Derry as the left footers call it). I don’t think it’s too bad in my opinion. It’s very old fashioned but I’m not really arsed about the colour of the walls or how old the furniture is. Food is reasonably priced and not too bad for a transport cafe.

It also suits me as it’s one hit from the boat. There’s not many more places worth stopping between Scotch and Wetherby. Quernhow went downhill when it changed hands about 15 years ago, wouldn’t trust them to feed my dog nowadays.

I agree a second class truckstop is better than a first class lay-by.

Certainly Londonderry puts Queer Now into a cocked hat. Barton Park isn’t bad value for a MOTO

The best place on the A1 used to be the truckstop/pub on the Southbound A1, was it near Melmerby or maybe a bit further North?

Why do you not try leeming services ten pound to park five off for a meal free shower truck park a bit small but nice and clean and friendly staff.

same here, was in the derry wed night it is still open, you can still access it southbound the normal way but you have to round the detour if your coming north n it only took me 5 mins to do the detour. i think the cafe is a seprate venture too the fuel pumps n lorry park.

Yes I think that was it, owned by a couple from our village, he was a lorry driver and it made a welcome oasis between home and the Punch Bowl
