London payments

Hi.
Just wondering how many (if any) companies pay drivers extra money or holidays, for doing multi drop in London, working for a Yorkshire firm I spend half my life inside of the M25 doing 7-10 drops a day all 4 corners of London on 2-3 days at a time. the other day a W.I.T driver from Worksop said they got £20 a day extra for doing exactly that, so I just wondered is that very common or are they extremely lucky.

More likely talking out of his rectal orifice. It is urban driving which most of us have to do. London is a pain but is it still only urban driving

90% of our stores are London we don’t get extra for doing London.

I go to many major cities and towns… Pay stays the same… so does my driving :grimacing:

I can well imagine some companies paying their drivers a bonus for London, most drivers earn more for doing less deliveries there due to the traffic and the helpful friendly co-operative attitude that the inmates have instilled in them, so maybe this WIT crew have a bonus system to encourage good progress.

I believe that many years ago the company I worked for paid drivers slow running time through London, well before the M25 was built to speed journeys up though.

When I was on Autocar & Richard Lawson, we use to get London conurbation, an hour for each quarter of London we went in to it was divided North to South by the A10/A23 and east to west by the river. That was on top of the hours we did.

When i used to do the centre of London 5 days a week i did ask my boss if i should get a bonus as i wasn’t getting high enough mpg figures for the drivers bonus, he said no obviously. So i just had 2 breaks driving back from London as we were paid hourly :sunglasses:

I’m sure a few in the past have said they got class 2 rate from their employers for taking vans and artic rate if they went in a 7.5.

My old place paid me diddly squat, just loaded me up to the eyeballs and told me to get on with it.

And that was proper London, not just inside the M25, hotels and bars. Marble Arch, Picadilly, etc etc etc

Quite miss it if I’m honest, but not quite enough to go back and do it again!

The idea of saying that Cobham or Epsom are in London is like saying that Skipton isn’t in Lancashire only because it is east of the M6.As for London multi drop or in even bus drivers the reason why Surrey’s Job Centres are historically full of zb London work while trying to call us London is because even the Londoners don’t want to work there let alone live there. :imp: :unamused:

If you live far enough north - “KFC in the Cobham Services in Outer London burned down yesterday” or "A hotel in Oxford in the prosperous south of England (like London) also came to grief yesterday"

Watford gap isn’t anywhere near Watford either, but there are plenty who still think they are the same locale. :unamused:

Think: If London delivery drivers got paid premium wages - there would not be a “national shortage” of them. A load of northerers rather than foreigners would be bussed in to do the £20ph work - because it would now be worth them making that kind of trip for the work.

There’s only a national shortage of drivers willing to do a crappy job that’s also near or on minimum wages.

There are plenty locally who would ( rightly ) think that the idea of Cobham,Epsom and Esher etc being classed as ‘outer London’ has more to do with the intentions of the GLA just as Kingston,Tolworth and Chessington got themselves ‘taken over’ by the zb’s in 1965.

As for ‘London’ multi drop no I don’t see our local Job Centres with queues of East Euro drivers trying desperately to trade their under paid East Euro based long haul international jobs, for the delights of living and/or working in London at any wage.HTH for any Norvern hopefuls planning on making the move. :smiling_imp:

Although to be fair maybe I should have said that the M6 forms/should form the border between Yorkshire and Lancashire from the point of view of anyone dan saf. Then see how they like the same treatment. :smiling_imp:

Our London drivers get paid more but we don’t get paid more for delivering there. If only :grimacing:
