London fines

Hi, after my journey to London I know I went thro a 18 tonne maximum road.
and next minute their were cameras this was just of the a1. How long does it usually take them to send you notice. Don’t need it this time of year and it’s just a new job I got

I got one for inadvertently going through a 18T zone in a 26 tonner a few years ago, think it took a week or so to come through.

I will appeal against it although I have no chance. But never know

It depends on who owns the vehicle. I got one for a box junction, and it took a little longer, as the vehicle was leased from MAN and it went to them first. Incidentally, I appealed and won, so its always worth a try.

Your previous post refers to going through the area, you have not given any more details other than that you came down the A1. Have a look at your map and see which way you went. From Highbury Corner there is more than one route to your destination in Fenchurch st. If you passed the Old Spitalfields Market in Commercial st you would have ended up turning west onto Whitechapel High st leading into the Aldgate one way system. This leads into Fenchurch street. As long as you were heading West then you would not have gone along the weight limited section. If you had approached FROM the West, ie from Bishopsgate or London Wall, and been heading East then you may well have done so. Camomile st and Houndsditch will lead you into St Botolph’s st. I last went through the area in June, Street View for July 2014 does not appear to show any warning signs, but they always were some distance away anyway.

Came of the a 40 on to north circular road I then picked up the a1.
And followed it all the way. As I was getting closer to fenchurch the a1 had option of going left or right. Like a ■■■■ I turned left and it say 18 ton. As going further up the road I see cameras the a sign with a lorry with a line through it saying no lorry’s. I then enter a 1 way and came round and turned left into lloyds avenue. At bottom of lloyds avenue I swing a right turn and then reverse up a 1 way street as the as my destination was 70 marks lane but could not get round marks lane so I had no option to reverse and advised by traffic manager. Was a good run down apart from the 18 tonne zone

As the a 40 tunnel was closed.

I do wonder how many new LGV drivers fall foul of London fines, if your new to going into the place I can imagine how easy it must be to cross a restriction. I’ve worked in London for a couple of years in a car going all over the place , I was more concerned about actually getting to where I needed to be without looking at restrictions. If I ever get asked to go to London in a truck I know I’d probably fall foul so respect to those who venture into the revenue capital!

Fella I know goes through weight limits all the while. Never been done once. Maybe it’s because he goes early doors and there’s nobody watching the screens. 7.5 limits in 18s, straight across Oxford Circus when he should have gone left. All through Greenwich and Deptford. He’ll only go into London down the 7.5 limit off the Westway towards Paddington, as the 501 “does his head in”

I went through one of those width restrictions places trying to get back to the bottom of the A1 to go back north.

Google London Lorry Control, and you can download a map of the restricted and unrestricted roads. It also gives routing advice etc. The downloadable map is really good, I used it most times entering London, you soon get used to the system. You just have to learn it before they can catch you. :grimacing:

I take it you used this route between 2100 and 0700? ignorance of the rules wont be accepted in the appeal process unfortunately.

You may be ok as there’s a lot of building work going on around there and a lot of closed roads so they may be a little more lenient at the moment especially with all the extra traffic due to the poppies

Yes I used the route at 3.00 am. Lesson learned and map down loaded
as I believe I am back in London next week all week. Will let yous know what happens next

£550 fine reduced by 50% if paid early is just a ■■■■ take, we should just let em starve.
