I intend to do London to Cape Town one day, its something I have wanted to do for years.

They usually have to use a plane on the final leg to Oz due to the lack of ferry services between the Phillipines and Australia.

Didnt TopDeck travel do this sort of thing with old routemaster double-decker buses back in the 80s/90s ?

You might mean Indonesia…The Phillipines are North

I assume they consulted Carryfast for expert advice…

I too would love to drive down to Cape Town. When I took my old van up to North Cape there were 3 Australian 4x4s on the ferry with me that were driving every continent. Must have been amazing

Anyone up for a challenge ■■?

Not quite as far as Oz, but I’d love to drive to Thailand. I reckon a grands worth of diesel Shogun should do it.

A few years back 2 young British girls drove a new Tuk tuk from Bangkok to Brighton. Their story is a good read.

There was a service called the Oz bus used to run regular London to Sydney(?) but I think they’ve gone down under.

I spoke with a Polish driver once, he was showing me his pictures on his laptop while we were on the ferry. He drove to South Korea, as he had something that was extreme marine pollutant and they were trying to reduce the cost of it’s going over the water to minimum due to insurance costs. The only bit they go over the water was the one to avoid the North Korea…

They used to go to Kathmandu, although the buses were Bristol Lodekkas rather than Routemasters which are about a foot taller than Lodekkas.

Saw an Oz registered Mitsubishi Canter “motorhome” in Wetherby services yesterday. All fitted out for overlanding, sand tyres, high ground clearance, snorkel etc.

met a dutch registered 4x4 with all the toys in Mazatlan Mexico ,it had 2011 roundtrip in english on the back…

wasnt there a bit on these in one of the magazines a couple of months ago, would be a hell of an adventure, theres a company close to where i live who do long overland trips in old mercs, and i used to work with a guy who drove them too, was interesting talking to him.

this man here holds the record for boing round the world in 19 days, thats going some!

I came across a Lodekka in Taupo NZ a few years back, it had been driven there overland (with ferry travel)

Since the above post is about travelling, and in the extreme sense. Thinking outside the box here, but what about staging a truckers driving challenge for charity??
