London 2012

What with the ridiculous amount of traffic and congestion that will be happening in and around london, im really looking forward to the olympics :unamused: Ive already been on site a few times, and its not pretty. The security checks are a real pain, as the ghurkas make you open your cupboards, side lockers and fridge and then stand outside like a naughty school boy while they climb around with their dirty boots on rummaging around through your personal belongings… As we will be doing movements on and around the park at stratford during the time of the games, its going to be manic, so imagine my thoughts when i am told that the security have stepped it up a level to airport standards, whereby we will not be allowed to carry water, aerosol cans or even toothpaste!! So, seeing as we will be spending 99% of our time in our trucks what do they expect us to do? Not use deodorant or brush our teeth for 6 weeks? I know that unfortunately with the way the world is now we need to be extra careful due to certain groups of ill minded people. But c’mon, is that not a bit of a joke? Im not a fan of having the olympics here anyway, purely down to the billions of £££ of mine and your tax that are being wasted on it. But for me, this is salt in the wounds. I feel like i am being let down by my own country (again). What are your views on this??

Hopefully I’ll not have to go to the ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  again but I’m looking forward to being told I can’t take food or drink in.

I’ll just ask them to open the ā€œoutā€ gate and ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  to their delivery.

Luckily my job means i won’t be anywhere near the hole, won’t be inconvenienced by the Zil lanes, and won’t be having to put up with the rubbish you describe.

I feel for you lads that do have to go there.

I’ve not been ā€˜in’ there yet. I’d like to,just once,to experience the hassle [yup,i’m wierd].

I’m also sceptical about the huge cost of these games and I don’t go with the stale one-liners
about being good for Britain etc.

Traffic wise, i’m already noticing a change…seems that traffic lights timing has been altered
on the eastern approaches along the A2 and Shooters Hill. I wonder if all light timing will be changed
to discourage traffic? [that would be daft].

It’s clear that the authorities are going all-out to make an impact on ordinary folk like us. Even if you go
nowhere near Stratford [or the other sites] your delivery jobs in London are going to take
a lot longer then normal. In an ordinary day multi-dropping,i’ll be given about 14 drops and they’ll
all get done…July/August? …hmm, i’ll let you know later!
