Lokerbie truck stop

Found this elsewhere. Could be another one gone.
Hello,
I am Lisa Twiname, I run the bar at Lockerbie Lorry Park and we really need your help.
On Friday the 26th of August, we the staff entered into a consultation period due to the owners of the Lorry Park being offered a sale for the land which the Lorry Park sits on. If this is accepted, then Lockerbie Lorry Park will cease trading within 30 days.
However, we have been informed that if someone matches or supercedes the offer that they have been given, but is willing to keep it as the Lorry Park then this will be favoured over the current offer. I personally looked into accumulating the funds to do so, but due to it being on such short notice I am unable to. This leads to why I am contacting you, as I know you utilise our services on a regular basis and I know that if it is not available it will be sorely missed.
I would like to know if you, or anybody you are in contact with, would be interested in saving our Lorry Park, for the benefit of yourself, the locals and countless other firms and drivers. The current staff at Lockerbie Lorry Park are willing to be involved with many aspects of the purchase, which we are happy to discuss if you are in anyway interested.
This is a plea for help, as the staff have been putting in countless hours to make sure the drivers have access to the facilities for the past year, and now we have done all we can but we personally can’t compete with the sale without assistance. Anything your company could do would be gratefully received, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you so much for reading this,
Lisa Twiname and the staff at Lockerbie Lorry Park.

It’ll be a shame if it closes, although I did prefer the old town truck park that ended up as a ■■■■ Tesco, that this one replaced.
It would be a good proposition for a transport firm to acquire it and use it as a combined sub depot/truckstop.

Spot on there Rob…so bloody stupid closing a place like this, can always guarantee getting a space there even at midnight as it’s so big

What kind of money are we talking about? Approximately…

According to this article dated August 2019 they want offers over £3 million.
Obv been on the market. While going off the date.

So prolly up 30-50% nowadays

160 parking capacity, assume 50% avg. is 80x£25 = £2000 per day
Rent out the buildings to offset running costs

3 000 000/2 000 = 1500 days to break even

25% avg. occ rate = 3 000 days still not bad

I’d buy it but I don’t have a school mate or relative working at a bank to lend me the £££

Don’t forget the VAT man will come and take his cut of your takings. Then tax on profits unless you or your accountant can keep things ‘balanced’.

I would imagine you won’t actually buy the business, but the land with an existing tenant in place, so they get the income, you get the rent income. I guess you could pull them off and run it yourself, but wouldn’t be inline with the plea from the truckstop.

Best option is a transport company taking it over then offer services out like Hayton Coulthard do at Ecclefechan. Shame jenkies are only in Penrith would’ve been dead handy for them.

Really hope not ,
When I’m in Scotland which is fairly often I generally if I can swing the times stay at
Lockerbie truck stop , lovely staff very decent facilities and always a space and a decent nights sleep .

always a space and a decent nights sleep

As long as you can park away from the railway tracks

I can sleep with a reefer running right behind me, a railway track isn’t a problem

Yep…same here but there are many curtainside/general haulage drivers who can’t

Called this afternoon, to say moral is on the floor is an understatement, a lot of worried staff.
Must be money in storing wood.

Jenkies…

May not be aware of the situation.

It wouldn’t hurt to inform them of the opportunity by emailing them would it.

Anybody remember around this time last year,.the high profile media coverage of the vast ‘‘driver shortage’’ and all the promises and pledges from the Govt,.who were going to ‘‘invest in and give incentive grants for proper facilities for truckers’’?..as an incentive to maintain or join the industry?
Here’s an opportunity for the ■■■■ s to put their money where their gob is, proper facilities that already exist but are about to maybe close.

Btw…are there any examples up and down the country of these ‘‘promises’’?
Nah?
Thought not,…so just more soundbite ■■■■■■■■ with no real substance.
Who’d have thought it eh? :unamused:

It is a good lorry park . The food is fantastic the staff are friendly and nice . The showers could do with an upgrade . The problem is the actual lorry park its self - there have been a couple of well publisised thefts from it lately and the view of drivers seems to be that they are happy enough to take the money for parking but theres no security and no one cares if a lorry gets raided , some even suggest that inside information is being passed on to the theives . Lockerbie truck stop was one of the first to close its gates when covid appeared and that was it - compare that to Ecclefechan truck stop who fought every which way they could to provide food and facilities for drivers and you’ll understand when I say its the fault of management that good hard working staff are in the position they are in and its a bit cheeky of them to think drivers and hauliers should step in and save them when they didn’t think of us when they had a chance .
I’ll be sorry if it closes but after the way they treated drivers during covid I’ve already taken my business elsewhere - Ecclefechan or the Heathergyl diner are both better places to stop and deserve the custom

But shouldn’t it be the Scottish government that should be coming up with any money?

You mean Boris Johnson, and this government in general, have failed to live up to yet more promises? :open_mouth:

Surely not :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
