From Friday 26 June Highways England are closing the roundabout at Lofthouse Interchange 24 hours a day for 2 months so there will be No turn from……. M1 northbound to M62 eastbound
No turn from ………M62 westbound to M1 northbound
& No turn from …M62 eastbound to M1 southbound without a detour to next junction & back for 2 months
''The interchange is being closed for the entire duration so Highways can “complete the work in the shortest time possible, minimising disruption to regular road users”.
So why didnt they do it when everyone was locked down?

The key bit is last 2 paragraphs. If you would normally use the roundabout you should follow the diversion which for any of the 3 routes involved mean going straight ahead( under the roundabout) and returning via next junction and then using the free flow slip roads
Probably adds on maximum of 10 minutes with the current traffic. Local cut throughs are probably no quicker.

Scheduled work!
There’s been other work going on at J7 of M621 which would have severely affected the M1N to M62 E diversion. At one point M621 was down to one lane with tailbacks even with the light traffic at the time.

I don’t work for…
Roads and planning but my guess would be that it’s a specialist job requiring one off parts and then the necessary teams of workers to do the work. This kind of repair is way beyond the local council yard with only a small tipper, four shovels, one set of temporary traffic lights and only Bill Harry and ‘Bazza’ to do the job.
