local talk

proberbly get slated for pointless post but here goes

coming back form burnley today ithought i fancy a sandwich and pulled into this layby and stoped.

went to the van and he asked me what i wanted.so i told him bacon and egg.

the next thing i know he comes out with**“do you want that on a barm”**spelling.so i asked him what’s a barm is and he showed me a cob.
so whats the diffrence between a barm and a cob?
is this a lancashire thing and is there any other local words i should look out for?

jon

you put butter on a barm
and marge on a cob

a cob has a hard crust,
a barm is soft.

so whats a bap :exclamation:

A bap is the same as a roll.

So whats a barmcake?

same as a bap  .

so whats a sarnie

barm is short for barmcake

which butty van was it■■?

whats a butty

A butty is what you sit on!!

A sandwich
On Merseyside, a finger roll is known as a nudger

at the end of the day it all comes from a bakery

jon

i hope no one bakes my nudger :open_mouth:

Or takes a bite… :open_mouth:

Forget all this barm or cob rubbish.Or if you live in Yorkshire, which I now do,a bread roll is a teacake!! But real men eat Stotties.

Ask any of us Geordies.

so am i weird if i say i have my bacon and eggs on a french??

or my sausage and egg i prefer in a pitta with lashings of Burgess’s!

strange!

A teacake is similar to a barm but has sultanas and currants in it and you toast it and have it for your brekkie.
