Local pickups - is card required?

Just been to an agricultural depot and talking to someone about this and that and they said they don’t put a card in their tacho’s for local collections as they are not going more than five miles. (7.5Tonners)

I’ve never heard of this and I thought all vehicles fitted with a tacho have to account for every km covered in that vehicle.

It could be under domestic regs …

I think I’m right in saying that if you keep within a 50km radius of the operating centre you do not need to put a tacho in but you are still limited to the domestic hours rules.
I worked for a builders merchant years ago and this was the case then but it may have changed now.
