Loading tyres for gibraltar!

This is my first time loading tyres into a taut. How do they do it is it like a dig zag stack?

Tighten your straps up as tight as possible especially if you have no side boards :stuck_out_tongue: Otherwise you’ll very soon have a full on “pregnant” trailer and struggling to squeeze it through the peages

This is how they load them

Don’t have any sides:D half load here then half near Chippenham. Di they move much?

They can do

Full up you’ll probably only have a bout 10 ton on but don’t drive it like that.

Steady as she goes on the bends and roundabouts driver like a load of hanging

Loaded in Burgos, 3 of us and I had the tautliner, they had tilts, race through the night and by the bottom of Miguels I thought I was towing a zeppelin

It took some sycronised squashing with the back of the other 2 tilts in Claudes and every strap we had to make it “shippable”. Had to run the national all the way up because the Gendarmes were on the Nantes peages

Wouldnt fancy that, with no side boards. Bulge enough with them in and strapped! Carefull if your shipping Brittany ferries as they wont let you on if its too fat, if they do then they may charge a supplement. Not been on them for years but I know it used to happen.

Yep they still rush out with the tape measure and calculator

That brings back memories. Did a couple or three loads in a step-frame tilt over 20 odd years ago.

This method is called “lacing” or something like that, However I was told a while back that this pratice has now stopped on export loads from Cooper Tires (Avon Tyres) unless you have boards or a box/fridge etc■■? So if your top up is from near Chippenham I,d bet it be Bowerhill Melksham so be aware.

Tis indeed “lacing” . . . i wonder how they used to cope with a load like that on a flat?

Well it’s been a day or so, is the trailer looking a bit middle aged (bulging at the middle) yet Rav ■■

He cant answer you, he is stuck in the peage in St Omer :stuck_out_tongue:

I have done a lot of tyres and they really had tightened up with the side bars and Michelin and Wincanton used to lace extra boards through the horizontals. For added security I used to throw 2 or 3 straps over the roof before loading

I wonder how long it takes to sell a trailer load of tyres in Gib ?. Is this the new carousel ?.

Used to do Burgos to Zurich with a W+D tilt,no prob. Fort Dunlop to Bedfords in Dustable on a flat …left a few on the M1!
