Loading from 7.5t to lorry in motorway parking

Hi, I am planning to hire a 7.5t truck and transport our furniture outside the town, for lorry to collect. Are there any restrictions to loading a lorry in a motorway service / parking area? what would be the alternative? thanks, Chris.

Biggest problem is finding a company that’ll hire you a 7.5 tonner without you having an operators license.

Don’t think any services allow loading/unloading.

Wear a balaclava and they won’t bother you .

I often stop at Warwick services northbound in the early hours and I frequently see trans-shipping going on in the HGV area, often involving Eastern European Merc Sprinters and no one seems to bother. If you’re quiet and discreet about it I bet you won’t have a problem.

I often see this happening in retail parks.have you got a spare burqua hanging about somewhere?

When I moved last year I hired a 7.5 tonner & got quotes from loads of other hire companies about hiring a 7.5 tonner and none asked about an o licence.

you don’t need one that’s why and its not up to the hire company to put an o licence on it … the O licence is down to the company hiring and think as long as your not over the licence limit and the vehicle is NOT on continuous hire for more than 30 days an O licence disc in not required. that’s why some places have trucks on hire for months on end but are never used at the weekend , they are taken off hire but the hire company would rather you keep it as its easier.

Private use, no “O” licence required. Done it a couple of times to move house.
