Who remembers the police hunt for Barry Prudhoe, the nutter who killed a couple of people around Pickering ?

You would have thought Ronnie could`ve sorted that out for himself. :grimacing:

Step frame low loader, engines carried on what are called transport frames. If it was an engine change we would deliver the new one, be on site for the changeover and return with the out of hours or duff engine for recycling/repair.

How many could you carry & hour much do they weigh?

The RB211 for instance weighs in at around 5 tonnes, with all cowlings fitted, we only carried one at a time on their transport frames.

Do they transport the cowlings too? I thought they took them off , changed engine & put them back on due to colour, liveries etc?

We did the bare engines, covered with a tarp so all highly technical

Any ideas on what may have been your most valuable carried ?
Think mine must have been the Rolls Royce engines for Airbus from Derby to Toulouse, approx £10 mill each I was informed.

I used to do the same run, and to Luxembourg as well when I worked for plane trucking late eighties early nineties

Surely that should have been in a secure crate lying on a bed of straw or summit ? I took a painting to a gallery in Mayfair from Nairn and the consignor wanted it lashed down, about three foot by two foot but only about 9 inches high also up to the vans bulkhead :unamused: Discovered it was definitely not a good idea to pull into the US Embassy gateway in a small white van to ask where the gallery was, it makes the armed guards patrolling outside extremely nervous, I buggered off as nonchalantly as I could but the old heart was racing and I was followed to where I needed to be by a red minibus loaded up with men in black uniforms, I kid you not :open_mouth:

The red minibus would have been the Met’s Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG) who are armed and patrol outside the embassy. I was one a few years back.

We didnt do new engines. We worked now and again for an engine leasing company (no airlines own an engine, they are all leased) who specialised in supplying short hour engines for emergency ‘get home cheap’ flights. For Instance, Air Canada had a Tristar at Manchester with an out of hours engine, or not enough to complete its trip home. Another ex Tristar engine from a breaker was donated and flown air freight to London where I picked it up and took it to Manchester for swap, those were the type of jobs I got.

So they just request an engine, you deliver it and they just bolt it to the plane to “get it home”?

Yesterday £8million one car, most expensive £35million again one car, classic Ferrari, 250 swb & 250gto, the latter came off mine & got loaded on a multi with others, so his load well over £100million.

So are the apu apparently…

Drove two hundred and fifty million in gold bars under a police ■■■■■■ from Heathrow to the Bank of England in the early 90s when Russia sent over their gold reserves. I was one of three Brinks Mat trucks all with the same amount on board.

Well I dont think many of us could top THAT mate!

Coach loads of kids, they are the most precious cargo of all.

Ok, I’ll stop. I’m starting to feel sick.

Talking of Brinks Mat trucks - I wonder how you get a job driving that load of presumably money up the M1 that has been mentioned on here before with more police cars escorting it than I think most forces actually own? They’re unmarked but I seem to remember the general opinion was they were bank of England trucks or similar.

That said, how do you get a job with Brinks Mat? Can imagine the security background checks go back to your great great great grandparents.

Mucker - hmm, that is seriously debatable considering some of the little [fb’s] I’ve met.
