Load to Nowhere

Here’s an interesting story for you, set off Tuesday afternoon from Kent to arrive in Cardiff the following morning at Ninian Park, Cardiff City FCs old ground which is now being redeveloped. I turned up just before 8am, forkie already laying out pallets as their desperate for the blocks, suddenly the site manager turns up and says they’re the wrong blocks!

Turns out there had been some misunderstanding between him and head office when ordering them, “they’ll have to go back”. He says “where did they come from?”. “Kent” I replied. Que lots of swearing as he makes the call to head office while I give my boss a ring to let him know what’s happening. After that I’m told to wait across the road in the carpark of Cardiff FCs new ground while the site manager tries desperately to get them diverted to another site to avoid having to pay a hefty fee to send them back

Two hours later he admits defeat and I end up taking them all the way back to Kent, a trip of almost 400 miles, I get paid 2 trips plus waiting time so happy days

Here’s pic of me sitting in Cardiff FCs ground for your viewing pleasure, typically it was raining cats and dogs

Anyone else been in a similar situation?

Not quite as good but today I loaded a new JCB 1.5t mini digger at the dealer in Braintree, I was to take it to AMG at North Weald Airfield where it was to be loaded into a ontainer for export to the Falklands.

I’d got as far as Stansted when I get told to return to Braintree as it had not been paid for, I suggested returning it to our yard to save having to recollect it later on. This was agreed by the dealer so I returned to Chelmsford, just before I get to the yard I get another call saying that they had decided to release it after all as it was important to get it loaded for the ship. I then turned again and delivered it to North Weald.

It managed to make it to the tarmac about 2ft off my ramps before running dry of diesel :unamused: although in my defence I had warned them it was low on fuel, they weren’t worried as they were “only going to park it in that warehouse until it gets put in that box”

last friday i had to take a 22 pallets of water down to southwuld for the latitude festival.I sat with it all weekend :frowning: come monday i set of back with 22 pallets of water

I left crewe early one morning to get to Cardigan by 8 for tipping a 29t load of animal feed,
Arrived at delivery point and was being weighed in when the phone rang.
Was told there was a mix up with paperwork and Id got the wrong trailer.

Instead of Cattle feed I’d apparantly got Sheep feed. (anyone that does animal feed knows that sheep cant eat cattle feed due to high levels of copper, doesnt do the wooley ones any good apparantly)

Was told to bring it back to Crewe as the trailer I should have had was on its way back.

9.5 hours driving for nothing.

Went back the next day with the right trailer

Once took a load of limestone from Derbyshire to Newton Abbot. Despite me telling the planner that the drop closed at noon on a Friday and that I wouldnt be able to start until 7am I was told to get on and do it. So at 7am I went and loaded, got to drop at app 3pm, turned around at 4pm, parked up and bought it back Saturday morning, then took it back on Monday, only to be told that they had cancelled the order on the previous Thursday because they had been broken down and wouldnt have room until Thursday.
