Not quite sure this is right…
correct, you should have alternated the ratchets (one side then the other) , that way there’s an even pull on the load.

They do that as its a way of stowing the straps, there is no where else to put them!
Looks bloody funny though.
The straps are so the cat can hold on whilst it has a crap
The straps are not holding the load in, they are keeping the side doors within the profiles.
An out of gauge wagon is only allowed on certain rail routes, so no bulging sides, flapping sheets or loose man lids are allowed. Normally measured as W6, W8 or W10
W6 can go anywhere on the rail network.

There’s always one smart arse that has the answer and spoils the fun with perfect logic
Followed this up from M4 Junction 15 towards our yard around Christmas 2005.
Loaded with freshly wrapped xmas trees.
The crate thing had 2x1 in the corners, and nothing more.
It would lean over quite a bit on the bends. On the roundabout, the top was a good 2 foot over the side of the pick up.
The tree wrapping thing, had 2 legs inside the bed, and 2 legs outside, held on with bungies.
I had my phone in my hand, in the hope it fell off. But it hadn’t by the time I came off on the A420.

I know, except the stone will settle and the straps will come loose anyway

I think its brilliant the way germans secure loads, they do take it too extremes but theres nothing like doing the job properly. The best loaded german trailer i’ve picked up was where the guy had made a false headboard using two lengths of 2x4 sandwiched between two pallets as the double stacked pallets were about 4 pallet spaces away from the trailer headboard!
