got a 10m length of timber but bed of wagon only 4.8m,so is it it wise to put it say 2.5m 0ver rear tail and 2.5m over cab with it strapped obviously, normally longest we carry 6m all help appreciated.

You may want to shuffle that about a bit or technically you need a drivers mate. Its allowed to protude 2m to the front and/or 3.05m to the rear. Anything more than that to the front requires a drivers mate and anything more than 3.05 metres to the rear requires written police notification 2 days in advance. It’ll also need proper marker boards as well. A hi-viz vest wrapped around the end does not constitute a proper marker board.

You’ll have no problem with that m8 ,our pick ups do over 11 metres very often and only have 4 m beds ,just load it to suit .

By the time you factor in the angle and the depth of the cab you’re fine so ignore any would be drama queens. Better to go over at the back, in favour of the front, as you don’t need much over at the front to find you can’t make turns without taking out stuff. Personally I prefer to put things n/s but obviously swings and roundabouts one thing is it is less likely to collide with any oncoming vehicle like a bus.
