Lloyd Frazer Milk Tankers

IMG_0550.JPG

Hi went for an interview with them today , seemed pretty good . A mixture of farm collections with 8 wheeler and trunking to various dairys with artic .
Was wondering if anyone has or is working for them and what there opinion of them is ?

Allso it would be working the following rota which seems odd to me just having worked mon -fri mostly …
It’s like 6 on 2 off for 4 weeks then 3 off 5 on for 2 weeks

If it seems pretty good and you are happy with the wages offered why not give it a go. Did many years on petrol tankers which at the time was spot on.
In my experience most tanker work is better that a lot of other types of work.

Well the wages seem reasonable and I’ve done farm work but not tankers but do like a new challenge .

I recently turned down a tanker job but that was sewage :imp:
I’d spend all day throwing up with that one

Remember you’re on domestic hours with farm collections. You’ll get used to working weekends on that job; and bank holidays, including Christmas Day.

Steady work though. Never done milk myself but delivered feed to farms for past 14 years.

Oh, and if you don’t care for the smell of ■■■■… I don’t think it’s the job for you!

I did three years for Lloyd Frazer on the milk out of Devizes. We were running domestic hours, on iirc 5 on 3 off, with a bit of a fav for a few weeks until you got a three day weekend. Basic money was above average, and extra days were paid accordingly. CPC in house, although we had to travel to Atherstone for it. It was paid for, and they had night courses for those on permanent night shifts. We also used the works van to travel to Atherstone and back.
We ran a tight depot, collecting around 80000+ liters of milk on a night shift.

I moved on for a number of reasons, but would work for them again.

I managed rota work for a year but I didn’t like it.

I was on a 12 week rota with the coop and every-time I wanted to do something i had to check my rota. Might seem like a small thing but it was really tedious even for little things like taking car for service etc.

Also I could not get into a routine. Where others would do mon - fri (work) friday-sat (■■■■ up and fun) and sun restday/shopping. I would be all over the place.
Having a weekly regular rhythm/ is quite important.

That being said if the money is good go for it.

Side valve , I’d forgot farm collections were on domestic regs  I presume you fill in a log book then ? (I did that for a short while on tippers on road maintaince )
The trunking to dairy would be on tacho , would take a bit of getting used too a mix of both :open_mouth:
I used to cow ■■■■ having installed milking machines in a past life :stuck_out_tongue:

Adam would take a bit of getting used to that shift pattern but I wouldn’t mind time off mid week as I’m not a going out on a weekend getting ■■■■■■ kinda guy

Cheers nodding donkey, sounds pretty positive , they pay for cpc and the time doing it on a sort it yourself and bring receipt in basis . Medical paid for too .

That’s 4 weeks of 6 day working on the trot, and you are working 9 saturdays or sundays (usually both) in that 7 week rotation, the pay wants to reflect that.

Presumably bank holiday working is compulsory if it falls on your shift?, something i have no issue with if its part of the package as it is where i work, but again needs to be factored in when you compare pay/hours with other jobs, where working bank hol as an extra day’s overtime would be lucrative.

Not trying to put you off the job may be a good one, my shift pattern is weird but involves considerably fewer working days in between rest periods, just make sure the top line takes account of all the premium days involved there…and yes i know the logistics cowboys have managed to convince some that 3am on a sunday or bank holiday morning is no different than being at work at 11am on a tuesday as part of a traditional working day, but we don’t have to go along with their definitions.

Thanks Juddian, taken on board
It’s just daywork 6am ish starts which is ok with me .it comes with 32days holiday .
Bank hols are included in the Rota. As is Xmas day etc but a premium is paid for that .
I guess you can blame mrs thatcher for weekend working at no premium pay :unamused:
Bringing in Sunday trading etc

I was on a good number where I am currently but the bean counters are involved now along with new trackers on the trucks ,and nit picking , more like big brother each day
. :imp:

This. Just started on milk myself a few weeks ago and I thought fridge work was 24/7. Milk never stops, great job and I love it but there will be missed Christmases and the like because it just keeps rolling on. Every day is just another day be it Easter Sunday, Christmas day or just some random weekend (though we do get time and a half and double time for bank holidays and Saturdays Sundays)

Thank goodness I did my time on tankers when I did.(80’s) No shift work involved. Mon - Fri job and finish. Occasional saturday if I wanted and better paid than they are now with great extras.

Not really. I was getting it in the early 2000s everywhere I went. It started to disappear around 2004/5.
