So outside of London the Living Wage level is £7.45.
I know in Hull my agency daytime rate is only £7.00 per hour.
Im pretty aggrieved that this is the case for a skilled job. Anyone else care to admit if they aren’t earning the Living Wage and in which part of the country?
Truck driving is an unskilled job and the pay reflects this.
£6.75 + £0.92 holiday pay for the first 8 hours. Time and a half overtime after 8 hours.
Takes me up to £7.67 ph but that’s only with holiday.
I’m down in the South.
Any muppet with a pair of flip flops can drive a wagon, wether they can do it without a substantial & ongoing damage bill is another matter.
the companies will pay whatever the drivers will take ? its simple if you don’t take the low paid jobs they have to up the rate but someone will always take it and then come on here and moan about it ■■?

Is it any wonder companies pay so little when people like you keep degrading the job!
I cant complain with my wage, well I could but no one would listen. It’s more than enough and I’m not exactly pushed.

Simple answer to that is to take the agency work out of Hull. I worked for a Hull agency when I finished driving in 2008 but didn’t really do much work in Hull. For driving 22 miles up the road I was on £10.50/hr.
Work in Hull on agency pays nowt but if you’re willing to travel outside of Hull, even 10-20 miles, the wages go up 20-30%. Even the woman at the agency couldn’t understand why drivers wouldn’t travel outside of the city - she couldn’t even get them to go to Melton so even work there commanded a premium over Hull. Must be a Hull thing.

+1 and I imagine the majority who avoid it are payed better.
The rates they advertise are simply an offer. Has anyone ever said “ok, I’ll take the job but not at that rate”?
I know i have. I don’t do hourly pay or agencies.

I’ve never been out of work in over 20 years. The only time i’ve been in one of those places in more recent years is to offer work. and what a waste of time that was, I needed some labourers and offered £100 per day, They said i couldn’t place the advert with them as i was paying too much money. How [zb]ing stupid is that?
