Liverpool

remember my dad telling me [A ONE TRANSPORT LEEDS] having a driver called Joe from Liverpool any loads that went to the docks they would send him, most of his family worked there ,tipped in no time

I remember getting in a queue on the Dock Road at 0400 with a 12 ton steel roll from Firth Browns Sheffield and was about 20 th in the line up.The bonded whisky motors were always tipped first, wonder why?
I was pulled out of the queue and tipped for about 0900 and got a bollocking off a senior driver for going back to the yard and not having a dodgy - “Always a dodgy with a Liverpool/Birkenhead dock drop, early tips included”.
I’ve picked a cabful of drivers up at Arthur’s Cafe on the East Lancs going back to Sheffield, motors left with the “look after yer wagon mister” brigade and one motor up to the cafe, park up and a lift home.
Great days - or not. :unamused:
