I believe the military are exempt from the DCPC, but if you want to drive commercially you will need to do the DCPC.
If you had your car licence before January 1st 1997 you will already have cat C1 on your licence in which case you will need to do 35 hours periodic training before you can drive commercially, if you passed the car test after that date you will need to do the initial DCPC before you can drive commercially.

thank you, i passed my test after that date, well after, only 25
i plan on doing commercial driving, io take it there are courses? to do the DCPC, however i thought the cut off ate was end of this month? if so are there going to courses for people that complete C+E after this date?
Could some please explain what the theory is for initial DCPC and the practical?
The theory is known as Mod 2 and is a case studies test; most of the info is what you learn for the multiple choice test. Must be passed before the practical is booked.
The practical is known as Mod 4 and is a practical walk round demonstration test. No driving involved. Covers load security, vehicle checks, illegal immigration/drug trafficking etc. Generally most trainers offer 2 or 3 hours training prior to test. Costs vary; ring round.
You’re best off asking within the military about CPC as they would know if you needed the qualification for military truck driving. You’d definitely need it to transfer to civilian driving though.

No dcpc for the forces - they are exempt 100%
Could ask forces if they will supply the training as part of resettlement package

Make sure what dcpc they are running because it could be only the periodic 35 hours dcpc not the one you want which is the initial dcpc

Cheers mate, i will make sure its the initial DCPC, I take it once i have done the initial DCPC that is all i need to go and get a job driving commercially?

Digicard needed in most cases but if not got you can get that now
Passing initial mod 4 will get you a DQC (driver cpc card) with a 5 year expiry date for commercial civvy driving
During that 5 years you need 35 hours of periodic dcpc to continue driving commercially for another 5 years after that
Once you have passed mod 4 you can then get those 35 hours immediately if you want to - especially if forces are paying - Completion of those 35 hours will then get you a new DQC expiry dated 10 years from when you passed mod 4
Periodic hours will only count towards the next 5 years if done within the 5 years of a DQC expiry date
