… or maybe a warning there’s no profit to be made in roadside catering as long as fuel stations have supermarket outlets attached!
I remember the Happy Eater as a kid. The excitement of a family holiday to Devon would be filled with anticipation of whether it would Happy Eater or Little Chef for breakfast!
I hope they don’t close the Chicklade branch!
How about Roses cafe at Beckingham, still has the lamp shades from when it was a Little Chef and that was Forty years ago, I think it still has the same seats to
Its no wonder with prices they charge

Who is going to use them though? When food is mentioned here, everyone stocks up at Aldi for the week ahead and bring their own fruit or cooks in the cab ?
I’ve not seen a little chef with a big enough space to park a truck recently !
The trouble was with Little Chefs that it took them at least an hour to cook anything
although this one has improved since Little Chef closed it

I found them half reasonable compared to most.

Besides, those Polish girls are so sweet, even get free parking

As i have posted on other thread if you can cast your mind back a majority of little chefs were built on sites of transport cafes they bought and demolished, some of them good ones.

They would only work if food was cheap and freshly made, they charge £8 or more for a breakfast. If you can do it for £3-£4 then you’d probably be able to get people in the door

What Denis said. I’m convinced they were deliberately designed to deter lorry drivers from parking in there, in fact many years ago I went on one whilst on a 7.5 job and was asked rather abruptly by the manager to move the lorry out of the car park as “this is not a transport cafe”.
I did… never been in one since.
More and more of us are eating healthily these days. There just usn’t the market for transport cafes
it would be alright if some of them changed into your average sandwich shop, good quality fresh cooked food and at a good fair price, stop get a sarnie then off again… or greggs took them over.

Only 1 I’ve ever used is at Sutton Scotney services (with room to park a wagon at certain times - for FREE - hence the certain times) and the food was nice, expensive but nice.
The one at Kilmarnock was being boarded up tonight at tea time.
didnt even know there were that many left
