hi everyone i have limited class 1 driving experiance i have been offered the chance of a full time job which i have stated i have limited experiance i have had my license for 2 and a half years does anyone have any tips for me or should i just throw myself in at the deep end cheers guys

Go for it it’s a steep learning curve, just take your time,& double check everything, make a checklist& stick with it,don’t be afraid to ask,but watch out for stroppy shunters

cheers m8 for the comments these will come in handy just dont want to make a kxxb of myself lol

You get the experience by doing the job, what difference does it make if you do it there or elsewhere?

Get on with it

I think you’ll get the same answer everytime on this one, just go for it.

Take your time, double check everything, try to plan your reversing all the time so as not to have to do blind sides as much as possible, if you do have to, just keep getting out and having a look, if someone will watch you back even better.

Don’t worry, you’ll be fine , good luck

If the company know your experience is limited what have you got to lose, go for it, you know you want to

go for it get in the get your hand dirty got to do it sooner or later

You will make a knob of yourself, dont worry about it. All drivers make knobs of themselves on a regular basis. We all have bad days where you cant reverse straight on a bay even with 20 empty football fields of room in front of you.

We all misjudge the odd corner here and there. Any driver that laughs at you struggling onto a bay is the real knob because we have all been there!!

Best advice i can give you… IF IN DOUBT GET OUT. Dont be afraid or embarressed to get out and check around you. Better that than hit something.

Always ask for help if youre not 100% sure. Most drivers are more than happy to get out and give you a hand.

And stay calm, dont get stressed its only a job and not worth having a heart attack about.

+1, spot on post.

I can only add by saying as i do to every new lad who asks…the biggest problem for all is tight and blind side manoeuvering…so every time you go into a service or parking area don’t choose an easy drive in/out but choose a ■■■■■■■■■■■■ that will make you do the reverses you don’t like…but obviously without anything to hit, that way you have a practice several times every day, soon as you like it comes together.

cheers guys i agree with all your comments thumbs up.

Exactly what I was gonna say, don’t wait until you need to blind side until you have ago at one!

And It’s alway more embarrassing getting out to have a look at the damage than it is to get out and look how much room you’ve got.

Hiya just a question. do all new trucks have these electric movable mirrors nowadays■■?
i had a renault and a fm volvo 12 years ago and the mirrors moved. this was a breeze for blind side
reversing as you could move the mirror out and back in to follow the trailer. i did,nt know if i was
lucky to get these mirrors or if they was standard on new lorries today. ive been finished for years
end abit out of the game now.
cheers john

don’t be shy about telling other drivers about your lack of experience, we’ve all been there, and we will always help out another driver.
you will come across the odd ignorant ■■■■■■. but that’s the same wherever you go, and in whatever job you do.

As the Nike ad goes, just do it!

Cracking posts on here, not going to repeat but will just say one thing.

Ignore the loudmouth forkies and other assorted car drivers giving it large.

Take your time and if you really feel you can’t get into a particularly bad spot don’t feel bad about asking a nearby trucker to do it for you and watch what he does. Any driver who refuses to help you is just a txxt. We all started some place somewhere.

Proper drivers will always help you.

thanks everyone for the comments i have took them all on board , i will update the thread once im finished my first shift and let yous all know how ive got on fingers crossed  i think i will be driving down to manchester most days and nights tramping and trunking
