. . not the union ones in the 70s.
Was sat up in the seat, aside the Palfinger, unloading a load of blocks yesterday .
To make a short story long ,an almighty thunderstorm broke out after a coulple of mins and i got to thinking “wonder if theres a risk of being struck”
Needless to say i didnt . . must have been the hi viz vest that saved the day
Any record of drivers being injured or killed by an “act of God” ?
On my ALLMI course years ago we were told not to use the crane in a thunderstorm, followed that advice ever since.
I don’t really want to wave a 7 metre long metal arm about in a storm

Donkeys years ago I was working on a opencast coal site when lightening struck a Cat scraper, the driver was taken to hospital but no major injuries.
Funny enough today I was heading directly towards a big thunderstorm with a container to unload. I’d decided that it could wait if it was kicking off when I got there. Luckily the storm had passed when I arrived on site, unusual for me to get a bit of luck like that.

I’m not sure it’d be too clever if you were stood alongside with hands on the crane levers, or sat up on the crane operating it though.

Theoretically you are insulated from the ground by the tyres. This guy just had a few light burns on his hands.

Yep on your truck there would be but not on a scraper, box was up and he was moving so just tyres, it took a chunk out of the engine cowl though.
Not sure I’d like to be waving a metal crane about in that

Could the lightning not just arc from the vehicle body to the ground? It has already arced several thousand feet
